The SiO2 particles were induced aggregated onto the surface of POSS, and sol–gel processes were simultaneously carried out with addition of co-solvent to form raspberry-like structure. 29Si NMR and XRD results confirmed that POSS were successfully grafted to polymer and were evenly dispersed uniformly in polymer matrix. The average diameter of composite latexes increased from 63 to 81 nm with increasing addition of SiO2 content. AFM and WCA images confirmed that sol–gel processes were promoted by increasing addition of SiO2 content, which improved the roughness and hydrophobicity of composite films. XPS spectra displayed that two kinds of Si–O bonds existed on the surface of composite films. One was related to the Si–O groups of SiO2, and the other was attributed to the Si–O–Si groups obtained from the sol–gel processes. The peak area of the former decreased from 56.86% to 38.78%, while the latter increased from 43.14% to 62.22%. TGA curves demonstrated that the composite film exhibited better thermal stability when the SiO2 content was 10.0%. In addition, serious phase separation would decrease the thermal stability of composite films. Each macromer was then copolymerized with 2-hydroxylethyl acrylate (2-HEA) and toluene diisocyanate to produce the UV curable resins labeled as UA-IPA, UA-TPA, UA-PA, and UA-AA, respectively. The glass transition temperature (Tg), pendulum hardness, and adhesion properties of the cured films were studied. In general, all the resins produced coatings with high gloss and good adhesion. When accelerated weathering tests were carried out, films of UA-TPA could withstand UVA exposure up to 1500 h. When subjected to methyl ethyl ketone double rub test, cured films of UA-IPA and UA-TPA could withstand the highest double rubs at 90 times, followed by UA-PA and UA-AA at 45 and 15 times, respectively. Under salt spray corrosion test for 720 h, cured films showed good corrosion resistance with no observable blistering, except for UA-AA that showed slight blistering. Excellent water resistance was achieved by all cured films with good adhesion and minimal gloss reduction.

However, polyurethane composite materials are highly inflammable and thus require the use of flame retardants. This study selected green and environment-friendly flame retardants such as expanded graphite, aluminum hydroxide, and kaolin to be used as individual or paired retardants to produce polyurethane composites. By analyzing the potential and mechanical properties of the polyurethane composites, it was found that the composite material with the flame retardant composed of graphite and modified kaolin had better flame retardancy, smoke suppression performance, and high thermal stability. The HT-BTSA obtained was characterized using infrared spectroscopy and X-ray diffraction. BTSA release from HT-BTSA in 0.5 M NaCl solution was investigated using UV–Vis spectroscopy. The corrosion protection performance of the epoxy coating containing HT-BTSA was evaluated and compared to the pure epoxy coating and the epoxy coating containing HT by cathodic disbonding test, electrochemical impedance spectroscopy, salt spray test, and adhesion measurement. It was shown that the BTSA was intercalated in hydrotalcite and its loading was about 33.5%. The BTSA release from HT-BTSA increased with the pH of the NaCl solution. It was also shown that the presence of HT or HT-BTSA in epoxy coating improved the resistance to cathodic disbonding and the adhesion of the epoxy coating. Corrosion protection performance of epoxy coating containing HT-BTSA was higher than that of epoxy coating containing HT. Surfaces -- AnalyseIndex. décimale : 667.9 Revêtements et enduits Résumé : Many earlier studies have shown a general relation between the surface properties of wood and coating performance. However, because of the multitude of chemical and physical interactions, and the effect of the surface structure on its wettability as well as on the penetration, the adhesion and durability of a coating may be different depending on the specific combination of wood species and coating materials. Important analogous findings are also knwons from wood bonding. Note de contenu : - Finishing options examined
