When a coating is applied to a substrate, solvent evaporates fromthe liquid phase resulting in the formation of a film. If the solvent used is organic solvent, the volatileorgaic compound (VOC) emitted may prove to be an environmental hazard. But if water is used as a solvent instead of the organic compound, then the VOC emitted to the atmosphere is negligible. With growing environmental awarenes and stringent laws being formed, the future of the coating industry depends on paint systems that emit minimal VOCs or no VOCs. The market study presented towards the end of this paper also indicates that there is a decrease in the market of solvent based coatings while there is a sharp increase in the market for water based coatings particularly acrylic coatings. The main objective of the review is to describe the acrylic polymer coating synthesis in detail based on the knowledge available in the open literature. The film properties of such blends have so far been ot reported. The method of preparation has been made simple. The varnish compositions satisfy the basic requirements of insulating varnishes as per BIS specifications. Permalink : https://e-campus.itech.fr/pmb/opac_css/index.php?lvl=notice_display&id=9047

The structural changes during the synthesis of VER were studied by Fourier-transform infrared spectroscopic (FT-IR) analysis. Gel permeation chromatographic (GPC) analysis gave the number - average molecular weight of cardanol-based epoxy resin (CNE) to be 780 gmole-1. A structure of synthesized cardanol-based VER was also proposed. A comparative study of vinyl ester resins (VERs), synthesized by using two different epoxy resins i.e. indigenous synthesized cardanol-based epoxidized novolac resin (CNE) and market procured 1138 EPN epoxy resin (EPN), was also proposed. A comparative study of vinyl ester resins (VERs), synthesized by using two different epoxy resins i.e. indigenous synthesized cardanol-based epoxidised novolac resin (CNE) and market procured 1138 EPN epoxy resin (EPN), was done in the present investigation. The resins were cured by using the mixture of resin, styrene and benzoyl peroxide in the ratio of 10:4:0.2 (w/w). Differential scanning calorimetric (DSC) technique was used to investigate the curing behaviour. It was found that the maximum peak temperatures for curing, in both the cases, were almost same. So, the cardanol-based VER may prove an alternative to EPN based VERs. Also, these resins may be environmentally friendly. In the early 1990s, ISO and ASTM standardised a combined corrosion/weathering cycle. Today, this is still considered the most effective test method for determining the usefulness of industrial maintenance coatings.
This paper reviews current corrosion/weathering tests results on different industrial maintenance coating systems, including lower VOC coatings such as waterborne acrylic coatings and silicone-based coatings. Additionally, some of the industry's leading experts provide their insights into corrosion/weathering testing as well as recommendations for modified cycles developed for special applications.Permalink : https://e-campus.itech.fr/pmb/opac_css/index.php?lvl=notice_display&id=9049
