Psychological stress has the potential to cause a decline in the epidermal permeability barrier function of the horny layer / S. Fukuda in INTERNATIONAL JOURNAL OF COSMETIC SCIENCE, Vol. 37, N° 1 (02/2015)
[article]
Titre : Psychological stress has the potential to cause a decline in the epidermal permeability barrier function of the horny layer Type de document : texte imprimé Auteurs : S. Fukuda, Auteur ; S. Baba, Auteur ; T. Akasaka, Auteur Année de publication : 2015 Article en page(s) : p. 63-69 Note générale : Bibliogr.

Note de contenu : - Research period and facility

PolyvinylpyrrolidoneIndex. décimale : 668.5 Parfums et cosmétiques Résumé : Rough skin, which occurs because of barrier disruption, is one of the most important cosmetic problems. The outermost surface of the body is covered by the stratum corneum, which is an effective barrier essential for preventing epidermal water loss and impeding the entry of external stimulus. The stratum corneum comprises layered cornified cells produced by the terminal differentiation of keratinocytes and intercellular lipids. Whether Radical Sponge has a barrier recovery effect was investigated. Radical Sponge prevented the decrease in cornified envelope and transglutaminase-1 mRNA expression induced by ultraviolet radiation. In addition, it could lessen oxidative stress-induced water loss. In human studies, Radical Sponge was shown to accelerate the recovery of barrier disruption by tape-stripping, and the combination of Radical Sponge and hyaluronic acid further accelerated the recovery. These results suggest that Radical Sponge as an antioxidant may offer a new solution for rough skin. Note de contenu : - What is fullerene ?

StaphylocoquesIndex. décimale : 668.5 Parfums et cosmétiques Résumé : - Objective :The present study investigated the relationship between the skin bacterial and fungal microbiomes and skin pH at sebaceous sites, namely, the forehead, cheek and upper chest. We also examined the relationship between the skin microbiome and transepidermal water loss (TEWL), which is an indicator of rough skin.
- Methods : Thirty healthy Japanese subjects (15 females and 15 males) were enrolled as subjects. The forehead, cheek and upper chest were examined in August (summer) and February (winter). Skin surface samples were collected using the swab method, and the 16s rRNA and ITS regions were analysed using next-generation sequencing. Skin pH and TEWL were also assessed.
- Results : The changes observed in the skin microbiome were associated with season-dependent changes in skin pH. An increase in skin pH at the forehead and cheek was associated with a higher relative abundance of Cutibacterium spp., a reduction in bacterial diversity, and a lower relative abundance of Staphylococcus spp. A decrease in skin pH at the upper chest was associated with a higher relative abundance of Malassezia restricta, a lower relative abundance of M. sympodialis and decrease in fungal diversity. Moreover, these changes were also associated with an increase in TEWL.
- Conclusion : The present results indicate that changes in skin pH are associated with changes in the skin bacterial and fungal microbiomes at sebaceous sites. The changes observed in the skin microbiome were also associated with rough skin.Note de contenu : - METHODS : Subjects - Skin measurements - Sample collection of cutaneous microorganisms - DNA extraction - Next-generation sequencing - Data analysis - Statistical analysis

Vieillissement cutanéIndex. décimale : 668.5 Parfums et cosmétiques Résumé : The stratum corneum water barrier controls structural and functional properties of both the epidermis and the dermis. Treatments which chronically disrupt the stratum corneum water barrier can induce changes similar to those seen with ’anti-aging’ treatments such as (-Hydroxy acids (AHAs) and Retin Aâ„¢.
Barrier disruption via daily tape stripping increases epidermal and dermal thickness, superficial and integral skin firmness, and improves skin surface texture. Modest or transitory disruption did not produce such effects. Similar results were observed with topical application of AHAs, retinoids or mild irritants after about 4-6 weeks provided such treatments resulted in prolonged elevation in TEWL (trans-epidermal water loss). Treatments that did not chronically elevate TEWL could also produce positive cosmetic effects, but such effects were in general restricted to the skin surface or epidermis. Irritation, which was observed with some treatments, was not solely responsible for the positive effects observed.DOI : 10.1046/j.1467-2494.1999.196562.x En ligne : https://onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/10.1046/j.1467-2494.1999.196562.x Format de la ressource électronique : Permalink : https://e-campus.itech.fr/pmb/opac_css/index.php?lvl=notice_display&id=26495
