SurfactantsIndex. décimale : 667.9 Revêtements et enduits Résumé : The development and use of aqueous coatings have increased considerably in recent years. The range of applications has been widened to include clear and high-gloss systems as, for exemple, automotive finishing coats, industrial paints, plastics coating and furniture finishes. However, these applications have a fairly large number of problems, especially as far as optical properties are concerned.
The flow properties are disrupted by poor substrate wetting, and edge thinning.
The film surface is uneven.
Pinholes form in the film surface.
Foam forms, resulting in unattractive structures or holes.
These problems are not unknown in conventional solvent-borne systems. However, they can often be overcome by using suitable combinations of different solvents, for exemple, polar and non-polar solvents. This option is not available for water-borne systems or, at least, only to a limited extent through the addition of co-solvents. Any difficulties which arise must be eliminated through the use of suitable additives.
Our work has shown that one additive alone is often inadequate. Just as solvent combinations are used in solvent-borne systems, water-borne systems require a selected combination of additives such as fluorosurfactants and polysiloxanes or wetting agents and polysiloxanes.
Although this paper concentrates largely on the polysiloxanes, there is some discussion of suitable combinations.Note de contenu : - TEST PRODUCTS : MODIFIED POLYSILOXANES

The emulsion sample is dissolved in tetrahydrofuran and injected into a mixed bed column. Distributed species are detected through a high range refractive index detector and PL logical software is used to compute molecular weight distribution related data. Polystyrene standards are used to plot a calibration curve. The selection of polymer peak limits is done manually. Various experimental factors related to sample preparation and chromatographic conditions which affect reproducibility are carefully studied before arriving at the proposed method. Titre : Small particles for the protection of metal : Silane-modified colloidal silica in water-borne PUD coatings for galvanised steel Type de document : texte imprimé Auteurs : Peter Greenwood, Auteur Année de publication : 2023 Article en page(s) : p. 24-29 Note générale : Bibliogr.
