Résumé : |
The performance criteria for exterior wood coatings are mainly based on visual and thus subjective assessments of degradation, of which cracking is the first visible sign. It clearly indicates that the coating is not flexible enough to resist dimensional variations of wood but does not explain the cracking risk. First presented at the International Woodcoatings Congress, this paper discusses the merits of Persoz hardness, variations in tensile properties, gloss retention as useful and measurable performance criteria. |
Note de contenu : |
- High initial persoz, high risk of cracking
- Strain at break retention
- And low tensile modulus variation are key for cracking resistnace
- Gloss retention : a candidate performance indicator ?
- Table 1 : Information about the coating systems |
