Résumé : |
Benchmarking has become a widely established business tool. In the coatings industry it is particularly valuable. While there are some benefits from scale of manufacturing, in general once batch sires have been maximised, capacity increases come from extra resources rather than larger scale resources. The value of benchmarking therefore is in assessing how well management is operating the resources and achieving high levels of customer service. In this article we shall discuss benchmarking for operating facilities such as manufacturing plants and distribution centres. There are many other issues such as the quality and size of sales forces. Some of these projects can lead to some surprising and radical conclusions in relation to both performance and sales and marketing strategy. |
