We describe on simple, reproducible method to evaluate the effectiveness of plasters in treating and reducing the skin manifestations of clinically mild forms of acne (bleackheads and isolated papulae and pustoles). Plasters generally consist of a support, a gluing system and a blend of functional substances distributed on the support material and act as controlled delivery system. 12 volunteers were selected for the study. They applied one transparent plaster directly on the acne lesions for 8/12 h (during the night) for six consecutive days. The efficacy of the treatment was monitored by objective clinical observation based also on visual scores given by the expert (dermatologist) and by photographic records at defined times during the six day treatment. A statistically significant decrease of the treated lesions scores, in comparison to the untreated ones, was detected after two days of treatment.
The method used allows to perform the evaluation with the necessary reproducibility characteristics, by comparing the scores given after visual examination to the photographic records of their evidence. |
