In terms of process engineering, the biggest savings in mass production can be achieved by reducing cycle time to a minimum. Jacob has developed and tested new processes (FIT-Hybrid and SpriForm) which combines moulding, forming and joining processes in a single process step. The new process also achieves high-level functional integration, made possible thanks to the high degree of design flexibility of thermoplastic based, endless-fibre reinforced composites, as well as the utilisation of the excellent processing possibilities that these materials offer. The key benefit of the invention is, that in addition to the lightweight potential of the used materials, this process offers an extraordinary potential of lightweight due to the combination with structural design.
