Tannage Résumé : A new tetrakis hydroxymethyl phosphonium sulphate (THPS)-zirconium combination tanning system has been developed. The optimum dosage of THPS, pickling pH and basifying pH were 2.0%, 3.5 and 5.0, respectively. The amount of THPS and zirconium sulphate were optimized at 2.0% and 2.5% (based on the pelt weight). The influence of ligands on the shrinkage temperature (Ts) of leathers has also been studied and the Ts of THPS alone and THPS-zirconium combination tanned leathers was much better than the relevant colour fastness to dry/wet rub of THPS alone tanned leathers.
Scanning electron microscopic studies show that the fibre weave of THPS-zirconium combination tanned leather was much closer than for THPS only tanned leather and the fibre weave of THPS-zirconium combination tanned leather was closer with an increase of amount of zirconium sulphate. Hence, this proves that the softness was reduced with an increase of the amount of zirconium sulphate and that the reactivity of zirconium sulphate with collagen fibre was very strong. The bulk trial carried out in Haining Shangyuan Leather Co., Ltd., proved that all indexes of the leather reached Chinese standard requirements.Note de contenu : - EXPERIMENTAL PROCEDURE : Materials - Determination of Ts - Optimization of the dosage of THPS - Optimizing pH - THPS-zirconium combination tanning - Physical testing and handle of leather - Test of Cr2O3, Cr6+ and formaldehyde content - Analysis with scanning electron microscopic (SEM)

ZirconiumIndex. décimale : 667.9 Revêtements et enduits Résumé : A large variety of coatings are used to protect structural engineering materials from corrosion, wear, and erosion, and to provide thermal insulation. In this work, yttria-stabilized zirconia coatings produced by suspension plasma spraying were investigated with respect to their microstructure and especially their porosity, as the porosity affects the thermal insulation of the underlying component. To determine porosity, pore size distribution, and pore shape, the coatings were investigated using novel advanced characterization techniques like NMR cryoporometry and X-ray microscopy. In general, the porosity is inhomogeneously distributed and the coatings showed a large variety of pore sizes ranging from a few nanometers to micrometers.

ZirconiumRésumé : Replacing the chromate and phosphate conversion coatings (CCs) with nontoxic ones has played a key role in CC research in recent years. Although considerable efforts have been devoted to discovering and modifying the toxic CC alternatives, much of the research has been restricted to a few numbers of green CCs. The present study has aimed to review the recent attempts that have been made in this area of research to address the toxicity issue of CCs, with a focus on the steel substrate. It includes investigations on different CCs: cerium (CeCC), neodymium (NdCC), lanthanum (LaCC), zirconium (ZrCC), titanium (TiCC), trivalent chromium (TCC), molybdate (MoCC), silicate (SiCC), and silane (SilCC). Surface studies, electrochemical measurements, CCs’ comparison, and film formation mechanisms were summarized. Imparting adhesion to the steel/organic coating interface or the delamination of the organic coating was discussed. Moreover, the influence of several steel substrates (coated and uncoated) and solution parameters (pH, temperature, concentration, stirring, and immersion time) on the CCs properties were outlined. Various methods (such as additives, heat treatment, and subsequent film treatment) that have been employed to improve the green CCs properties and make them comparable to their harmful counterparts were explored.

Tannage Résumé : A Zr-Al-Ti complex tanning agent solution was separated by gel column chromatography. The structure composition and metal ion content of components separated from the solution were detected and analyzed by UV spectrophotometry, Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy and inductively coupled plasma emission spectrometry. The results showed that the precipitation pH of the Zr-Al-Ti complex tanning agent solution rose at first and then fell with increased addition of alkali. At pH2.5, precipitation pH was the highest i.e. 4.15. Seven components were separated from the Zr-Al-Ti complex tanning agent solution by gel column chromatography. In the Zr-Al-Ti complex tanning agent solution of such composition, Zr 4+ and Ti 4+ prefer tend to form big molecular complexes.
