Adhesive bonding is a broadly used assembly technique that is often linked to productivity gains or weight savings. The automotive, building and construction, aerospace, and railway industries commonly use adhesives to reinforce structures in conjunction with standard methods such as welding, riveting and screwing. Requirements such as hardness, elongation, resistance to dry and humid heat, and chemical resistance can be met when the correct monomers and oligomers are used. Cured photopolymer properties can be predictably manipulated by changing the backbone structures and molecular weight of the various components. Polyether-backboned monomers and oligomers showed the best overall performance and maintained that performance when exposed to both dry and humid conditions. Note de contenu : - Learning what works

Matières plastiques dans les automobilesIndex. décimale : 668.4 Plastiques, vinyles Résumé : To meet stricter regulations aimed at significantly reducing emissions and improving fuel efficiency, automotive companies must drastically rethink the way vehicles are engineered and manufactured. Weight saving has been identified by the industry as a critical way to comply with these government regulations. Reducing vehicle weight introduces challenges that affect all parts of the vehicle and engineering processes, including the software applications used from conceptual design through final manufacturing. These challenges will require automakers to not only redesign vehicles and consider the use of alternative materials, but also to rethink their engineering processes, manufacturing methods and software technology.
