Flambage (mécanique)Index. décimale : 668.4 Plastiques, vinyles Résumé : Shells are constructed for the most part missiles, submarines, tanks and fluid reservoirs. Shells are susceptible to buckling failure under extemal pressure. During design process buckling analysis is the important parameter. Therefore engineering designers have to well understand the shell buckling to prevent the unexpected failure of structures well before the yield strength of the material. In the present investigation, comparison of the linear buckling strengths of unstiffened carbon fibre reinforced polymer (CFRP) composite conical shelland the linear and nonlinear buckling strengths of Al-Cu alloy under the action of uniform extemal pressure using both theoretical and finite element analysis (ANSYS 12.0) is done and corresponding conclusions are presented.
