Through radiometer and theoretical analysis, the heat insulation of wired glass sprayed with intumescent coatings was measured. Test results indicate that after using an intumescent coating with a thickness of 0.3 mm, wired glass surface will generate a heat insulation layer that will dramatically reduce radiant energy levels due to thermal expansion. Results from this study suggest the use for a grid shape of intumescent coating because of the ease of application to wired glass and the fact that wired glass with an intumescent coating has proven to be the most feasible heat insulation material that can be practically applied in designated fireproof compartments of buildings. InflammabilitéIndex. décimale : 675 Technologie du cuir et de la fourrure Résumé : The influences of seven kinds of oils on the flammability of pig chrome leather have been studied. The flammability of the fatliquored leathers was evaluated by the vertical flame test and Oxygen Index Test. The results show that the 7 oils increase the fire resistance of leather. The effect is especially shown by sulphated oils which have a more apparent effect than sulphited oils. The leathers which were fatliquored with sulphited fish oil, sulphated neatsfoot oil and lecithin have a stronger glow resistance than the leathers either not fatliquored or treated with other oils. The results should supply a basis for the preparation of fire-resistant leather.

Résistance à la flammeIndex. décimale : 675 Technologie du cuir et de la fourrure Résumé : Four common film-forming materials, including polyurethane (PU), polyacrylate(PA), nitrocellulose lacquer (NC) and protein, were used to coat leather. The flammability of the leather was evaluated by the vertical flame test (ALCA Method E 50) and oxygen index (OI) test method (ASTM D 2863-77). The results indicate that all of the above film-forming materials can enhance the flame-resistance of the leather. According to the OI values of the finished leathers the performance of film-forming materials on leather can be ranked as : PU>Protein>PA>NC. The results of flammability tests show that pigmented finishes may improve the flame-resistance of the leather. The effect of different application levels of film-forming materials on the flammability was examined. The results indicate that the OI values decreased with the increasing levels of PA and PU, and the other values, i.e. afterglow, after-flame, char length and weight loss, etc. rose. The variance of PU was larger than for PA.
The afterglow and after-flame of the leather, finished with a 'Sofa Leather Finishing Formula' (Clariant Chemicals Ltd, China), were much higher than for the crust indicating that the flame-resistance of this finished leather is worse than the crust.Note de contenu : - EXPERIMENTAL PROCEDURES : Materials - Preparation of finished leather samples - Sampling for oxygen index test and vertical flame test - Vertical flame test - Oxygen Index test

Tannage végétalIndex. décimale : 675.2 Préparation du cuir naturel. Tannage Résumé : Pickled skins were individually tanned with different commercial tanning agents, including chromitan [chrometan], glutaraldehyde and vegetable tannin extracts. The flammability of the tanned leathers were tested by the Oxygen Index test method (ASTM D 2863-77) and the Vertical Flame test (ALCA Method E 50). The densities of the tanned leathers were also measured to show the relationship between fibre’s tightness and leather’s flammability. The results show that the three tannages can enhance the flame resistance of leather and that the performance of tanning agents on leather can be ranked as: tannin extracts>chromitan>glutaraldehyde.
The ranking of the leather density results is the same as the flammability sequence. The results should be useful as a basis for the options in tanning fire-resistant leather.Note de contenu : - EXPERIMENTAL PROCEDURES : Materials - Preparation of tanned leather samples - Sampling for oxygen index test and vertical flame test - Vertical flame test - Oxygen index test - Determination of the leather density
