ThermocinétiqueIndex. décimale : 668.4 Plastiques, vinyles Résumé : The design of a polymer composite actuator is essential for micro and nano applications. Thus, the composite material may deform or deflects as specific stimuli are applied, such as heat, electrical, light source, etc. The deformation of the composite material is caused by the type of stimulus applied. Hence, while it is heated, the expansion takes place quickly, and the heating is shut down, the material shrinks very slowly. In the present investigation, this phenomenon is mainly studied in the actuation of composite beams. Numerical analysis of carbon black filled polymer composite beam expansion, and contraction is being analyzed in this research. The structure of the beam has been created, and the composite properties are incorporated into the beam, and the uniform heat source is applied on to the surface of the beam. The heating and cooling of the composite material predict the increase and decrease in the temperature of the beam. The numerical analysis of the temperature-dependent expansion and contraction of the composite beam has been carried out successfully. An increase in temperature is observed to signify the slight expansion in the composite beam, whereas the contraction of the composite beam takes a longer time to reach room temperature. Also, the increase in the content of the filler leads to a decrease in the expansion of the composite beam. The numerical simulation of the polymer composite thus provides a solid platform for the experimental study of thermal actuators. Note de contenu : - Basic concepts

(Wikipédia)Index. décimale : 667.9 Revêtements et enduits Résumé : Excess thermal energy can cause significant damage to the mechanical parts of various systems. Temperature sensors can measure and control the temperature in these systems to prevent such damage. However, the applications of existing temperature sensors are limited by their shape as it limits their ability to attach to different surfaces. Consequently, it is challenging to measure the temperature of curved surfaces. In this study, we propose a smart paint that can measure the temperature of curved surfaces to address the above issues. The smart paint fabrication method must be optimized because the resistance characteristics of these paints differ according to the manufacturing conditions. In this study, a curing process was used to manufacture the smart paint; the optimal curing temperature and curing time were determined experimentally. Furthermore, a coating solution was applied to increase the surface stability of the fabricated paint. The coating was applied using a spin coater at a specific rotation time and speed. We also determined the optimal coating conditions. The coating was confirmed to increase the surface stability of the smart paint. NettoyageIndex. décimale : 668.1 Agents tensioactifs : savons, détergents Résumé : When the sanitary ware "ceramicplus" was launched it was one of the first product in consumer market that offered a surface based on nanotechnology. "ceramicplus" is a ceramic material that is modified by sol-gel methods, the so called wet-chemical nanotechnology thus creating a material of very low surface energy which results in a particularly dirt-repellent and easy-care surface. A further innovative surface is called "activecare". This ceramic glaze contains small quantities of antibacterial silver ions which prevent the build-up of bacteria and ensures hygienic cleanliness. Independent tests by renowned research institutes have verified the properties and long-term effect of "ceramicplus" and "activecare". Because of its water- and dirtrepellent properties "ceramicplus" requires minimum care without influencing the established good properties typical of ceramic materials. The roughness and hardness of ceramicplus is not significantly different from those of conventional ceramic glaze for sanitary ware. Scrubbing tests have proven that only the long-run use of highly abrasive cleaning agents – like scouring powder – may scratch the surface and impair the properties of "ceramicplus" as well as conventional ceramics. Thanks to the easy-care properties of these functionally modified ceramic surfaces such aggressive cleaning agents are not required for cleanliness.
