In this study, chitosan that is an inherently antimicrobial polymer and chitosan (CS)/poly(ethylene oxide) (PEO) blend solutions were electrospun to obtain nanofiber webs for wound-dressing applications. Although electrospinning of chitosan with PEO was previously studied, this study emphasized the effect of molecular weight of polymer used, total polymer concentration and electrical conductivity of polymer solution on fiber formation. Results show that selection of suitable solvent and determination of optimum process parameters were key factors for obtaining uniform nanofibers. Antimicrobial activities of these nanofiber webs against S.aureus, E.coli, and C.albicans were tested according to AATCC 100-2004. Over 99 % reduction in the number of microorganisms with pure chitosan nanofibers and over 50 % reduction with CS/PEO blend nanofibers were obtained. Taguchi, Méthodes de (Contrôle de qualité)Index. décimale : 668.4 Plastiques, vinyles Résumé : This study experimentally investigated the effect of different molecular weights of Poly vinyl acetate (PVAc) on electrospinning ability of PVAc/DMAC sol-gels. The influences of polymer solution concentration and electrospinning process parameters (needle tip to collector distance, flow rate, and applied voltage) on the mean diameters of electrospun PVAc nanofibers were examined by design of the experiments based on the Taguchi method. Three levels were considered for each process factor as inputs for the Taguchi DoE technique. To characterize and optimize the mentioned parameters, Taguchi's L9 orthogonal design (four parameters, three levels) was used. The "smaller-the-better" approach was used to utilize the optimum production conditions based on the signal-to-noise (S/N) ratios. The results indicated that the polymer solution concentration was the most important parameter on the mean diameter of the nanofibers. The minimum nanofiber diameter at the optimum conditions was measured about 52 nm. In conclusion, the Taguchi DoE method was identified as an efficient technique to characterize and optimize the electrospinning process parameters to increase the robustness of nanofiber fabrication. Séparation huile/eauIndex. décimale : 667.9 Revêtements et enduits Résumé : The efficient separation of oil and water is significant in addressing oil–water pollution issues. In this study, we developed a poly(vinylidene fluoride)/graphite (PVDF/GE) multiscale heterogeneous porous carbon nanofiber composite mat (MHPCM) through a two-step electrospinning method for enhanced oil–water separation. The mat was prepared by incorporating PVDF nanospheres, GE flakes, and carbon nanofibers, taking advantage of their inherent oil-repellent and water-attracting properties. MHPCM-4 demonstrates superhydrophobicity (WCA≈154.1°) and superoleophilicity (OCA≈0°). The separation efficiency for 1–14 μm carbon tetrachloride-in-water emulsions exceeds 99.9%. After 25 cycles, MHPCM-4 maintains its oil flux at 92.25% of the initial value. Additionally, even after 25 cycles, MHPCM-4 retains a separation efficiency of 99.8% for immiscible oil-in-water mixtures and a separation efficiency of 99.7% for water-in-oil emulsions. Thus, this material has great potential for efficient oil–water separation in various circumstances. Note de contenu : - EXPERIMENTAL SECTION : Materials - Preparation of MHPCM - Characterization

The electrospun PA6 nanofibers were functionalized using electroless deposition technique. Oxygen low temperature plasma treatment was applied to substitute the conventional roughening process using concentrated sulfuric acid-potassium dichromate. The deposition of copper (Cu) on the PA6 nanofibers was characterized using scanning electron microscopy (SEM), atomic force microscopy (AFM), and energy dispersive X-ray spectroscopy (EDX). The observations revealed the uniform coating of the PA6 nanofibers with thin films of Cu. It was also found that the surface conductivity of the PA6 nanofibers was significantly improved by the Cu deposition. The combination of electrospinning and electroless deposition will provide a new approach to producing the functional nanofibers for various applications.
