SurfactantsIndex. décimale : 668.1 Agents tensioactifs : savons, détergents Résumé : Adsorption of Cl2out of aqueous media by TDRP (tire derived rubber particles) was investigated. For this propose batch system and sodium hypochlorite solutions were used on controllable conditions. The kinetic data were followed more closely to the pseudo-first-order model, the adsorption rate and the effecting parameters such as substrate initial concentration, the TDRP relative quantity, temperature, pH and ionic strength; were studied. The saturation equilibrium and the related parameters (initial concentration, temperature and pH) were also studied. The adsorption isotherm was established and compared to the activated carbon adsorption isotherm. Linearized Langmuir and Freundlich models were tried to estimate the adsorption constants. It was estimated through this study that the adsorption rate is positively affected by rising temperature, adsorbent concentration, TDRP relative quantity, and acidity. The adsorption equilibrium was shifted towards higher adsorption capacity by substrate concentration, temperature and acidity. The adsorption data could be applied to Freundlich and Langmuir and fitted more with Freundlich model. Activation enthalpy of adsorption, the adsorption thermodynamic parameters, the Freundlich and Langmuir constants were obtained. Polymérisation en émulsionIndex. décimale : 667.9 Revêtements et enduits Résumé : Since their discovery 30 years ago, miniemulsions have been the subject of numerous investigations ranging from the fundamental to the applied. This unique type of oil-in-water emulsion is chiefly characterized by its droplet size and relative stability. High shear is typically applied today to create the small size droplets (anywhere in the range of 50-500 nm) and the combination of a surfactant and a low molecular weight, highly water insoluble costabilizer is used to maintain their stability against collisional and diffusional (Ostwald ripening) degradation. The low molecular weight of the costabilizer is also responsible for the high swelling capacity of the droplets and polymer particles (made by emulsification of polymer solutions, polymerization of monomer miniemulsions, or a combination of these). These features of high stability and swelling capacity distinguish miniemulsions from conventional emulsions and have been exploited to make latexes not possible by conventional emulsification or emulsion polymerization processes. These include artificial latexes made by direct emulsification of a polymer solution followed by removal of the solvent, synthetic latexes made by polymerization of monomer miniemulsions, hybrid latexes made by emulsification of a monomer/polymer solution followed by polymerization, and encapsulated latexes. Most recently miniemulsions have been applied in controlled radical polymerizations whereby relatively narrow molecular weight polymers are produced. In general, our research efforts in miniemulsions have covered the fundamentals of their formation and stabilization, polymerization kinetics, and mechanisms, and look forward to possible applications. An overview of this research is presented here. Note de contenu : - MODÉLISATION NUMÉRIQUE : Mécanisme cinétique - Modèle d'écoulement

Structure moléculaireIndex. décimale : 667.9 Revêtements et enduits Résumé : A series of polyesters was prepared to evaluate hydrolytic stability as a function of cyclohexyl dibasic acid content. The three cyclohexyl dibasic acids: 1,2; 1,3; and 1,4 were formulated into polyesters with two glycols. The proportion of cis and trans isomers was evaluated via 1H NMR. The hydrolytic stability of short chain polyesters was evaluated in an acetone/water mixture which solubilized the polyesters to mimic oligoester behavior within a thermosetting polyester coating environment. The rate of hydrolysis was monitored by acid titration and corroborated by GPC. Surprisingly, 1,2-cyclohexyl diacid-based polyesters were robust, and 1,3-cyclohexyl diacid-based polyesters were the most susceptible to hydrolysis. Evidently, a 1,2-anchimeric effect for cyclohexyl dibasic acid polyesters was not an important consideration, while the 1,3-cyclohexyl ester interaction was. Consequently, an anomeric effect was proposed.
