SilicatesIndex. décimale : 668.4 Plastiques, vinyles Résumé : Nanocomposites of polyamide six (PA6) reinforced with organoclay were prepared in this study through melt mixing. The blended montmorillonite clay was organically modified with octadecylamine. The loadings of the clay were 1 wt%, 5 wt%, and 9 wt%. The obtained nanocomposites exhibited exfoliation (1 wt%) and intercalation (other compositions) structures. By contrast, if they were mixed with unmodified clay, the PA6 molecules could not enter the silicate interlayer. For polypropylene (PP), forming nanocomposites with organoclay was difficult but made feasible by incorporating the maleated PP. The results of dynamic rheological tests demonstrated that an end-tethered storage modulus was observed for the PA6/organoclay nanocomposites. However, the PP/organoclay exhibited terminal-zone behavior. In addition, the shear creep recovery was conducted on the molten polymer composites. The results indicated that the molten PA6/organoclay nanocomposite exhibited a higher creep-recovery ratio, a measure of the elastic property, than that of pristine PA6. The time constant in the Voigt-Kelvin constitutive model for the PA6/organoclay melts was lower than that of the pristine PA6 due to the superior elastic moduli, because it is defined as the ratio of viscosity to the modulus. However, the recovery ratios for most of the PP nanocomposites were found to be less than that for the pristine PP, indicating the fair reinforcing effect of the organoclay. RhéologieIndex. décimale : 668.4 Plastiques, vinyles Résumé : The melt strength behavior and drawability during elongation flow of low density polyethylene (LDPE)/linear low density polyethylene (LLDPE) blends were investigated using the Rheotens test method under temperature ranging from 160 to 200 °C and die extrusion velocity varying from 9 to 36 mm/s. It was found that the blend melt strength decreased with a rise of temperature while increased with increasing the LDPE weight fraction when the extension rate or drawing ratio is constant; the dependence of the blend melt strength on the melt extension temperature roughly obeyed the Arrhenius equation; the dependence of the blend melt strength on the die extrusion velocity roughly obeyed the index equation. The drawing ratio at the melt fracture decreased with increasing the LDPE weight fraction and the die extrusion velocities, while increased with a rise of the melt extension temperature.

ViscositéIndex. décimale : 668.4 Plastiques, vinyles Résumé : The effects of graphene nano-platelets (GNPs) content on melt flow behavior and flexural properties of reinforced polypropylene (PP) composites were investigated. The results showed that both the flexural modulus and strength at room temperature increased when GNPs weight fraction was lower than 0.4 wt.%, and then decreased with increasing GNPs weight fraction. During the melt flow of the PP composites in capillary extrusion within temperatures ranging from 180 to 230 °C and in apparent shear rates varying from 100 to 4 000 s−1, the melt shear flow followed the power law relationship, and the dependence of the melt shear viscosity on temperature obeyed the Arrhenius equation. The correlation between the melt shear viscosity and GNPs weight fraction was approximately linear under the given test conditions.
Traction (mécanique)Index. décimale : 677.4 Textiles artificiels Résumé : An increasing trend for biopolymer production and application is being seen due to environmental awareness in the past years and eco-friendliness of biopolymers. ln the textile sector biopolymers occupy a relatively low market share due to their insufficient mechanical properties compared to conventional polymers, challenges during polymer processing and their higher price. The production of biopolymers (commonly known as bioplastics) is continuously increasing and recorded as 1.5 million tons in 2012, which is expected to reach to 6.7 million metric tons in 2018.
