Stabilisant à la lumière de type amine encombréeIndex. décimale : 667.9 Revêtements et enduits Résumé : A major drawback in the use of wood materials for construction and decorative applications is its sensitivity to light. Numerous researchers have shown that the ultraviolet (UV) as well as fractions of the visible (VIS) spectrum of solar radiation cause most of the chemical modification and mechanical breakdown of exposed wood. To insure the long life of wood substrates, they are usually coated with various decorative and protective finishes. The protection effect depends strongly on the opacity, i.e., the degree of pigmentation of the coatings. However, the use of UV absorbers (UVA) and hindered amine light stabilizers (HALS) both in the coating system and also in a direct wood impregnation step can improve the light stability considerably. Here the knowledge of the light sensitivity of wood is crucial for an optimal photoprotection concept for coatings and the wood substrate. This paper highlights findings of a systematic investigation of the light sensitivity of pine wood (Pinus radiata). Furthermore, it describes the correlation between quantity and type of organic UVA and HALS as well as the lignin stabilizer concept and the degree of pigmentation of the coating. These findings are of great importance for an efficient and economic use of light stabilizers in film-forming wood coating systems for pale wood species and allow a cost-effective stabilization. Despite the advantages of these properties there is one major drawback with using alkyd resins. Degradation may occur over a relatively short period of time when alkyds are exposed to ultraviolet (UV) light radiation from natural sunlight. The clear coat containing UV absorbers and light stabilisers (N-OR HALS) is commonly applied to the surface for protection.
Waterborne alkyds coatings - the green coatings - have been developed to replace conventional alkyd coatings with VOC emissions. It could be a challenge when light stabilisers are required to protect coatings to UV degradation.
This paper is a comparison study of two different waterborne light stabilisers, which are N-R and N-OR HALS, mixed with waterborne alkyd coating. N-R HALS is basic and N-OR HALS is suitable to use in waterborne acidic alkyd coating. Design of Experiment (DOE) was used in this study. Eversorb AQ6 is a waterborne UV absorber and Eversorb AS5 is N-OR HALS that was investigated in this model. The results confirmed that by increasing the concentration of Eversorb AQ5 and Eversorb AQ6 in the top coat, it can effectively protect from UV light degradation. Furthermore, data also showed that by increasing the coating thickness, the weatherability of coating can also be improved to some degree.

Stabilisants (chimie)Index. décimale : 667.9 Revêtements et enduits Résumé : UV curing processes have been used extensively in many different industries such as packaging, printing inks and protective coatings for wood, plastics and metal etc. Advantages ov UV curing are instant drying, low operating cost, improved quality and reduced space.
Waterborne UV-curable coatings - the green coatings - have been developed to replace conventional UV-curable coatings with VOC emissions. It could be a challenge when light stabilisers are required to protect coatings from UV degradation.
Eversorb AQ7, a blend of UV absorber and HALS, is developed specifically for waterborne UV-curable coats. This paper is to investigate the effects of the use of light stabilisers in waterborne clear UV curable model formulation. Design of experiment (DOE) was used in this study. Test data showed that Eversorb AQ7 in a waterborne clear UV-curable coating would not have negative impacts oncure speed.
The effect of waterborne HALS is higher than UV absorber in the curing speed. The results confirmed that by increasing the concentration of Eversorb AQ7 in the top coat it can effectively protect from UV light degradation.Note de contenu : - EXPERIMENT

Transparence (optique)Index. décimale : 667.9 Revêtements et enduits Résumé : The requirements in terms of outdoor durability in the joinery market have increased significantly over the past years. High performance waterborne dispersions have been developed for this purpose. BASF continues to develop products which can meet these stringent performance requirements. The first waterborne UVA/HALS blend using proprietary NEAT technology has been recently launched.
This product fulfils these high-end requirements as it is composed of a high performance UV absorber and a non-interacting HALS, making it compatible for all resin types, especially sensitive resins.
This novel blend offers a superior photo-permanence and it not only improves the durability of the wood but also the performance of the wood coatings in terms of superior colour and gloss retention.
The NEAT technology allows an additional step forward in the reduction of VOCs. The new product is solvent-free and does net require any co-solvent for its addition into the formulation.Note de contenu : - Novel encapsulated additives technology - neat

Tension superficielleIndex. décimale : 667.9 Revêtements et enduits Résumé : Waterborne polyurethane–acrylate (WPUA) as a surface protective coating has been widely used in industrial, architectural, and textile applications. To extend the application of WPUA in the biological field, a novel ultraviolet-fluorinated waterborne polyurethane–acrylate (UV-WFPUA) film, which contains 2, 4-dihydroxybenzophenone (DHBP) as the ultraviolet (UV) absorber and dodecafluoroheptyl methacrylate (DFMA) as the fluorine monomer, was prepared. The paper discussed the effect of UV absorber and fluorine monomer on the UV adsorption performance, thermo-stability, and physical and mechanical properties of the UV-WFPUA film. Furthermore, it explored the independent and cooperative effects of UV absorber and fluorine monomer in affecting the antiprotein fouling property on a quantitative level. Results show that the antiprotein fouling performance of UV-WFPUA film significantly weakened after adding 0.4 wt.% DHPB since the average protein concentration increased from 0.14 to 0.37 mg/mL. In contrast, after adding 9 wt.% DFMA, the average protein concentration dropped from 0.37 to 0.13 mg/mL, indicating the antiprotein fouling properties improved. Therefore, the addition of fluorine monomer will contribute to antiprotein fouling and eliminate the adhesion of UV absorber with proteins. The excellent antiprotein fouling, thermal, and optical properties endow the waterborne polyurethane–acrylate films with promising applications in corneal contact lenses or intraocular lenses.
