Theoretical study of the interaction energy of benzodifuranone dye molecule rings / Yi-Zhen Zhan in COLORATION TECHNOLOGY, Vol. 133, N° 1 (02/2017)
[article]
Titre : Theoretical study of the interaction energy of benzodifuranone dye molecule rings Type de document : texte imprimé Auteurs : Yi-Zhen Zhan, Auteur ; Xue Zhao, Auteur ; Wei Wang, Auteur Année de publication : 2017 Article en page(s) : p. 50–56 Note générale : Bibliogr.

Teinture -- Fibres textilesIndex. décimale : 667.3 Teinture et impression des tissus Résumé : The aim of this paper was to reveal the relationship between the interaction energy of benzodifuranone dyes and dyeing performance indices such as dyeing temperature and colour fastness. Dimer models of benzene–benzene, benzodifuranone–benzene, and benzodifuranone–benzodifuranone configuration were set up, and geometry optimisation and interaction energy were calculated using a density functional theory ?B97XD, 6-311G++ (d, p) basis set. The calculation results showed that the benzodifuranone molecule had better coplanarity. The molecular interaction energy of benzene–benzene, benzodifuranone–benzene, and benzodifuranone–benzodifuranone rings decreased at first, and then increased with growth in the distance between the rings, the lowest energy occurring at a distance of about 3.25–3.75 Å. The dispersion force affected the interaction energy of benzodifuranone–benzene rings most, while both dispersion force and electrostatic force influenced the interaction energy of benzodifuranone–benzodifuranone rings. These calculation and experimental results revealed that a greater energy was needed to destroy the dye–fibre and dye–dye interaction energy of benzodifuranone-based disperse dyes. Teinture -- Fibres textilesIndex. décimale : 667.3 Teinture et impression des tissus Résumé : Wool fabrics can be dyed with synthetic dyes and even with natural dyes. To present a different aspect to the coloration of wool, the current study was focused on a topping process (ie, the dyeing of wool that was already dyed) with different natural dye sources. For this purpose, the fabrics that were already dyed with a natural dye source were once again dyed with two different natural dyes. In bottom dyeing (bottoming), fabrics were dyed with hops (Humulus lupulus L.) in the presence of different mordanting agents. Then the dyed, washed and dried samples were once again dyed (topping) with two different natural dye sources. For topping, powdered madder and acorn were tested in direct dyeing of wool samples. Finally, the colour changes were analysed with the use of a spectrophotometer. The study demonstrates that such a process (ie, bottoming with hops in the presence of different mordanting agents and then topping with madder or acorn) can be a way of obtaining different shades and colours with sufficient/good fastness values by natural dyeing. Teinture -- Fibres textilesIndex. décimale : 667.3 Teinture et impression des tissus Résumé : In this study, the objective was to ensure anti-bacterial properties for originally coloured wools with naturally sourced garlic stem extracts. In addition, zinc chloride-based treatment was also carried out. The aim was to retain the original colours of the wool fibres during these treatments. The effects of both treatments were evaluated in terms of colour changes in the wool fibres. It was found that the colour changes caused by the treatments were high in white/ecru fibres but more limited in black fibres. The colour differences between the treated and untreated black fibres were near 1; they were also quite high in white/ecru fibres. The anti-bacterial properties of the treated wool fibres against two bacteria species, one gram-negative and one gram-positive, were also investigated. It was observed that zinc chloride-based treatment ensured significant anti-bacterial efficiencies against the bacteria tested and 99.9% bacterial reduction in all cases. However, the anti-bacterial effects of garlic stem extract-based treated wool fibres were limited. It was observed that treatment of wool fibres with garlic stem extracts resulted in no anti-bacterial efficiency against Escherichia coli but did provide some anti-bacterial capability against Staphylococcus aureus . The highest bacterial reduction of S. aureus was 80.7% in originally brown-coloured wool fibre. Note de contenu : - EXPERIMENTAL : Materials - Method

UltrasonsIndex. décimale : 667.3 Teinture et impression des tissus Résumé : India is the largest producer of jute in the world and the use of this natural fibre in various value-added applications is gaining momentum. The use of white biotechnology involving enzymes for the efficient processing of jute is considered to boost its productivity. The present investigation deals with the pretreatment of jute by using ultrasound-assisted enzymatic scouring followed by bleaching and dyeing. The process showed optimum removal of impurities and improved water absorption capacity with minimal damage to fibre tensile strength. The process parameters and conditions were determined by response surface methodology, where weight loss of jute was kept as the main response. The optimised recipe obtained was 2.8% enzyme concentration, 1 g/L wetting agent at 55°C for 10 minutes at an ultrasound frequency of 40 kHz. The optimised recipe was compared with conventional high-temperature long-duration enzymatic scouring and was found to have an equal performance. Further, the scoured jute was dyed with a natural dye extracted from sappan wood and madder. Fourier Transform-infrared analysis was used for characterisation. The wash and light fastness of dyed jute yarn were evaluated and found to meet the industry norms.

UltrasonsIndex. décimale : 667.3 Teinture et impression des tissus Résumé : The current study elaborates on the capabilities of ultrasonic waves in improving the conventional method for analysis of banned aromatic amines in dyed textile samples. Wool, linen and cotton were dyed according to their relative affinity with a selected benzidine-based dye, CI Direct Red 28. The standard procedure, BS EN 14362-1:2012, was used for testing dyed textile samples, with final estimation through gas chromatography-mass spectrometry. The dyed samples, after reduction, released a significant quantity of benzidine (listed banned amine), hence were chosen for experiments with ultrasound-assisted reduction (UAR). To explore the influence of ultrasound energy on the reduction of bis azo dye, the standard procedure for analysis of banned aromatic amines in textiles was modified incorporating minor changes. The reduction step in the altered methods was performed with ultrasonic aid in less time, while the rest of the method remained unmodified. The altered procedure was designated as “method 2”. Samples were quantified with gas chromatography-mass spectrometry. The extent of the reduction was correlated with wetting characteristics of textile materials. The results from the standard test procedure were used for comparison with those obtained from UAR trials. The UAR method in the case of wool, assessed in terms of greenness, provided noticeable time and energy savings. A comparative account of the chosen matrices with respect to dye reduction is also presented.
