Stabilité thermiqueIndex. décimale : 667.9 Revêtements et enduits Résumé : A series of ultraviolet (UV)-curable waterborne hyperbranched polyurethane dispersions (WHPUDs) have been successfully synthesized by modifying the hyperbranched polyester H10, which was prepared using pentaerythritol as a core molecule and dimethylolpropionic acid as monomers, with succinic anhydride, toluene diisocyanate (TDI), and hydroxypropyl acrylate (HPA). The H10 was characterized by 1H nuclear magnetic resonance spectroscopy and matrix-assisted laser desorption/ionization time of flight mass spectrometry. The properties of the WHPUDs with different content of succinic anhydride and TDI–HPA have been investigated by measuring the stability, the particle size, and the rheological behavior. The effects of the content of succinic anhydride and TDI–HPA were studied in terms of UV-curing rate, water resistance, and thermogravimetric behaviors of WHPUD coatings. The WHPUDs showed good appearance, particle size, viscosity, and storage stability. The WHPUD films showed superior photosensitivity and the percent conversion of C=C bonds reached about 80% when the radiation time was 50 s. Moreover, the UV-cured films had good water resistance and thermostability, which can benefit a waterborne polyurethane resin for waterborne coatings. Note de contenu : - EXPERIMENTAL : Matérials

SolubilitéIndex. décimale : 667.9 Revêtements et enduits Résumé : A hyperbranched polyester with carboxyl end group (HPC) was synthesized by using trimellitic anhydride and neopentyl glycol as raw materials via A2 + B3 polycondensation. Then, waterborne hyperbranched polyester acrylate (WHPC) was synthesized by partially modifying the carboxylic groups of HPC with glycidyl methacrylate. In order to explore the influence of molecular weight, acrylate groups content, and ion groups content on performances, a series of WHPC films with different molecular weight, acrylate groups content, and ion groups content were prepared. The dynamic light scattering spectrometer analysis shows that the higher ionic groups content and the lower molecular weight cause the smaller particle size. The ionic group content has a positive effect on the solubility. The smaller molecular weight and particle size cause the lower viscosity. The Fourier-transform IR spectrophotometer reveals that the double bond final conversion increased with increasing acrylate groups content. The final conversion is between 69 and 86%. The curing speed is fast, and the curing time is about 70 s due to the numerous end groups owned by the hyperbranched structure. The dynamic mechanical thermal analysis coupled with end-use mechanical property tests illustrates that the crosslink density has a positive effect on the storage modulus and a negative effect on the flexibility. It is also found that glass transition temperature and pencil hardness are determined by the balance between crosslink segment and hyperbranched polyester segment. The thermogravimetric analysis proves that increased crosslink density and molecular weight promote the heat resistance of films. This work utilizes a novel hyperbranched structure that excels in viscosity, flexibility, and water solubility. Furthermore, the preparation process is convenient.
(Wikipedia)

Stabilisants à la lumièreIndex. décimale : 667.9 Revêtements et enduits Résumé : Waterborne ultra violet (UV)-curable coatings have been developed to replace conventional UV-curable coatings to lower VOC content. Due to fast-drying and short processing time, UV-curable coatings are widely used in various industries. However, there are two major challenges : The first one is discolouration after long-term exposure to sunlight ; the other is to keep the ability of UV filtering, since waterborne UV-curable coatings are usually applied to the surface as a protective top coat.
The novel light stabiliser (NLS) has been developed specifically for waterborne UV-curable coatings. Design of Experiment (DOE) was used in the study. Test data showed that the designed NLS would not interfere with the curing speed of the tested clear waterborne UV-curable coating system. Moreover, the results confirmed that increasing the concentration of NLS could enhance the UV filtering ability and weatherability of the tested clear top coat more effectively than by increasing the coating thickness : At 365nm wavelength, the effect factor of NLS is 62.5%, while DFT (dry film thickness) is 20.9% ; at 380nm, the effect factor of NLS is 47.7%, while DFT is only 27.4%. The test results confirmed the designed NLS could block the UV light without compromising the UV-curing speed and is suitable for enhancing the weatherability and protection ability of the clear waterborne UV-curable coatings.Note de contenu : - EXPERIMENT : Materials - Equipment - Methods

Toucher softIndex. décimale : 667.9 Revêtements et enduits Résumé : Soft-touch coatings for the graphic arts industry often show adverse effects such as burnishing. A combination of a UV curable polyurethane dispersion with a water-miscible UV binder created a soft-touch coating with improved properties. The surface structure and appearance of two different soft-touch coatings were compared, and correlated with the expected differences in haptic properties. ThermogravimétrieIndex. décimale : 667.9 Revêtements et enduits Résumé : A series of two-component UV-curable waterborne CO2-based polyurethane dispersions (UV-PUDs) with excellent flexibility and mechanical strength were synthesized from poly(propylene carbonate) diol (PPCD), isophorone diisocyanate (IPDI), 2,2-bis(hydroxymethyl) propionic acid (DMPA), 2-hydroxyethyl acrylate (HEA), pentaerythritol triacrylate (PETA) and 1,4-butanediol (BDO). One component was UV-curable waterborne polyurethane terminated by HEA and PETA (molar ratio 1:1), and the other component was linear waterborne polyurethane. The content of the UV-curable component in UV-PUD was 15%, 30%, 45%, 60%, and 100% (weight content). The obtained cured films exhibited superior flexibility without loss of tensile strength, accompanied by excellent acid and alkali resistance. In particular, the dried UV-PUD films without curing showed good mechanical properties.
