Revêtements en phase aqueuse -- Additifs:Peinture en phase aqueuse -- AdditifsIndex. décimale : 667.9 Revêtements et enduits Résumé : The adhesion promoter for paint is an additive to promote adhesion of the film to the substrate. It has an affinity for the substrate and the applied coating and forms a permanent and strong bonding. Adhesion promoters are bi-functional materials that increase adhesive strength between the coating and the substrate and sometimes are referred to as coupling agents. Unlike priming systems, adhesion promoters are generally applied at thinner film thicknesses. An adhesion promoter's effectiveness depends on both the substrate and the adhesive being used. Surface pre-treatments, such as solvent cleaning or mechanical etching and corona treatment, can be used with adhesion promoters as part ofa pre-treatment method. Within a class of materials, the functionality on the backbone of the molecule wi II vary based on the resin system employed as well as the substrate to which it is attached. Adhesion is one of the most important properties of both decorative and protective coatings. Many of the additives used in coating formulations can have a negative impact on the overall adhesion behaviour, even for surfaces that would not be considered difficult for adhesion. Avoidance of deleterious additives is preferred, but at times they are needed to impart other properties to the coating. Note de contenu : - How to achieve perfect coating adhesion ?

RhéologieIndex. décimale : 667.9 Revêtements et enduits Résumé : There is continued research and development of additives to complement the low to zero VOC latex systems being recently introduced by the latex manufacturers. Rheological additives are continuously improved to provide the paint formulator with thickening efficiency complementing the newly introduced latex systems. This enables the formulator to have the flexibility of formulating to achieve the required paint, film and application properties. NHG1 and NHT1 are examples of the next generation of associative thickeners tailored to fit these needs. The case studies discussed above prove their high efficiently together with their ability to provide the paint system with the desired balance of properties. They are also proven to be compatible in systems based on different latex chemistries. In this article two examples were presented that illustrate the development and manufacture of industrial biocides for aqueous coatings that reduce negative impacts on human health and the environment. Water-based IPBC and BIT products are now available that are greener than the conventional organic solvent-based formulations.Note de contenu : - WATERBASED IPBC FORMULATION : Synthesis of the active ingredient, IPBC - Product formulation - Manufacture of formulated product - Analytical methods - Environmental fate of IPBC - Safe handling of raw materials - Life cycle analysis - Product efficacy

Index. décimale : 667.9 Revêtements et enduits Résumé : Airless spray applied industrial maintenance topcoats can suffer from defects such as microfoam, gloss loss, retraction, and a reduction in corrosion resistance. By careful selection of additives, such as dispersants, defoamers, and wetting agents, the coatings chemist can reduce or eliminate these defects. Basic and empirical data are presented that will demonstrate how these defects were managed in several model industrial maintenance coating formulations Note de contenu : - CONCEPTS/THEORY
