Transition vitreuseIndex. décimale : 677.4 Textiles artificiels Résumé : The market of elasticyarns has grown rapidly over the past years. Drivers are especially applications in apparel and medical textiles. Currently, elastic yarns are mainly produced by dry spinning. 4 major challenges limit this way of elastic yarn production : low production speeds, expensive production conditions, environmental issues due to sol-vents and a high surface tackiness of yarns, which makes further processing difficult. The research project ElasKosTex analyses a solution approach of developing melt spun elastic bicomponent filament yarns. Note de contenu : - Increasing production speeds and reducing tackiness
- Research project ElasKosTex
- Intermediate results
- Glass transition point and melting point of the characterized polymers

Index. décimale : 677.4 Textiles artificiels Résumé : Adding photoluminescent properties to polymer optical fibers (POFs) can be achieved by doping the transparent polymers with appropriate dyes, opening a whole spectrum of application fields. Among them, luminescent solar concentrators, i.e. waveguides in fibrous or other form that improve commercial solar cells, attract the attention of researchers across the globe. At Empa, a continuous bicomponent melt-spinning process was employed to demonstrate economical fabrication of photoluminescent filaments with a core diameter of 278 pm and an overall diameter of 326 pm. Bundles consisting of these novel fibers were tested in a solar cell enhancement experiment, where relative enhancement of energy generation up to 126% could be shown. Moreover, this approach provides a promising solution to reduce the angular dependency of a photovoltaic cell's performance. Here, the filter market is split into 2 areas: air and liquid filtration. While in excess of 170,000 tons of nonwovens were manufactured for gas/air filters in 2015, the volume for liquid filters was almost double at around 295,000 tons. Index. décimale : 668.4 Plastiques, vinyles Résumé : Patient movements can severely affect the quality of MRI and CT images. A new approach detects the movements and subsequently incorporates them into the image evaluation by means of correction algorithms. This significantly improves the image quality. The melt-spun POFs of Covestro’s Desmopan 9385 has a density of 1.18 g/cm3 and was produced at a polymer throughput of 4.8 g/min using a spinneret with a capillary diameter of 1 mm, at a draw ratio of 2 and a take-up speed of 23 m/min
