Produits hydratantsIndex. décimale : 668.5 Parfums et cosmétiques Résumé : - Objective : Research evidence supports the skin benefits of Aloe gel in moisturization and healing. However, the market is fraught with aloe gel that is unstandardized, unstable, or unsafe to use. Thus, it is necessary to provide an aloe gel extract that is safe and stable with demonstrated efficacy. In the present study, AloeHealâ„¢, a stable and standardized, Aloe vera gel extract was developed and tested for its performance in both skincare and oral care applications.
- Methods : Aloe vera gel, AloeHealâ„¢ with 0.16% mucopolysaccharide and 0.27% total solid content was extracted by a proprietary mild extraction method. It was further tested for stability (ICH guidelines) and preservative challenge test, PCT, (USP51). The cell proliferative activity, reduction in lipopolysaccharide (LPS)-induced IL-6, and wound healing efficiency were studied in both human gingival fibroblast (HGF) and human dermal fibroblasts (HDF). Finally, AloeHealâ„¢ was evaluated for skin moisturization in a pilot trial (6 volunteers) using Corneometer.
- Results : Stability results of AloeHealâ„¢ showed no hydrolysis leading to free sugars. The extract also passed the PCT. In the cell proliferation assay, highest activity was observed at 0.5 mg/ml in both HGF (134.87%) and HDF (142.47%) cells. In addition, at this concentration, 100% wound healing activity was observed in both cell types. AloeHealâ„¢ also showed potent anti-IL-6 activity in HGF (IC50=0.111mg/ml) and HDF (IC50=0.430mg/ml) cell lines. In the pilot in vivo moisturizing study AloeHealâ„¢ retained significant skin moisture for 2 hours as compared to the placebo.
- Conclusion: AloeHealâ„¢ is a stable, safe, and efficacious extract of Aloe vera gel with proven skin moisturizing, wound healing, anti-inflammatory, oral-care, and skin rejuvenating ability.Note de contenu : - MATERIALS AND METHODS : Preparation of AloeHeal TM - Testing for stability and preservative efficacy - Cell proliferative capacity - Wound healing assay - Anti-inflammation assay - Pilot study for skin moisturization in human volunteers

Produits d'hygiène bucco-dentaireIndex. décimale : 668.5 Parfums et cosmétiques Résumé : With the mass-marketed introduction of fluoride in toothpaste in the 1950s, toothbrushing with paste became indispensable for good oral health. Both the industry and the dental profession had a shared interest in advocating the widespread correct use of good quality toothpaste. This publication starts with a general introduction on the purpose, history and composition of toothpaste. The following chapters deal with the clinical evidence of its effectiveness in caries prevention, reducing and preventing plaque, gin-givitis, halitosis, and calculus formation, facilitating removal and prevention of extrinsic stain, and preventing dentine hypersensitivity and erosion. Later chapters provide valuable information on the abrasiveness of the pastes, the substantivity of active ingredients in the oral cavity and the possible models to study the effectiveness of the pastes when full-scale clinical trials are not possible. The final chapter focuses on the frequency of toothbrushing and post-brushing rinsing behavior. The book provides indispensable information for dentists, dental students and community dental programs on whether toothpastes can be recommended to patients for specific aims and how to use them to obtain the best effect.
