Concentration pigmentaire volumique critique
MesureIndex. décimale : 667.9 Revêtements et enduits Résumé : Because of the importance of knowing the Critical Pigment Volume Concentration (CPVC) for maximum performance of ail pig¬mented coating systems, a large number of methods to measure CPVC have been proposed. All at¬tempts to predict the critical point on theoretical grounds have been unsuccessful. Some tests for CPVC are quite accurate and reliable in showing where the break in the for¬mulating ladder exists. Some re¬quire considerable judgment.
All tests for CPVC, unfortunately, require the preparation of the coat¬ing compositions, induding pig¬ments used, vehicles (both solution and latex type), and their grinds. The composition must then be de¬posited on some substrate and dried—either by air or bake—before the classical tests can be used. All facets of the coatings manufacture must be induded in the test sam¬pies. The required sample may be produced relatively fast in the case of baked systems or very slow in the case of some air-dried systems.
Ail of the classical tests made on these PVC ladders are relatively time consuming and total testing time may require many hours. A new method of testing on the PVC ladder, which is both veryfast and requires minimal instrumentaion, is proposed here. For the most part, the tests on each sample can be made in less than one minute.

Yet Menges and his colleagues long ago discovered that it is more accurate to use strain as a criterion. However, it is quite complicated to determine so-called “critical strain” as a limit value. Recent studies done at the IKT in Stuttgart, Germany, aim at making this determination more accurate and simpler. Note de contenu : - A plastics compatible approach

Simulation par ordinateurIndex. décimale : 668.4 Plastiques, vinyles Résumé : Internal pressure loads are typical for fiber-reinforced plastic components. To increase the burst strength of components, the fiber orientation can be modified in a targeted way during injection molding by means of a rotating mold core. A newly developed simulation method allows this modified fiber orientation to be taken into account at the design stage. Note de contenu : - Measurement of fiber orientation

- Practical realization of a pressure-loaded component
- Fig. 1. The superimposition of the injection-induced axial shearing by the tangential shearing due to the rotation selectively influences the fiber orientation in the tangential direction due to the rotation
- Fig. 2. The rotation core can produce an increase in the tangential orientation component almost independent of the wall thickness (left). At correspondingly high speeds, the tangential fibers dominate the microstructure across the entire thickness (right)
- Fig. 3. The layer-by-layer assignment of the fiber orientations, with the aid of Converse and S-Life-Plastics, enables the anisotropic structural simulation of rotated components
- Fig. 4. Application of the simulation methodology allows, for the first time, the increased bursting strength due to rotation of the mold core also to be taken into account in the design of new components

Index. décimale : 667.3 Teinture et impression des tissus Résumé : A simple method of analysis is described in which ordinary absorption spectroscopy is employed to measure dye content within cellulose triacetate fibres in order to determine the rate of dyeing for triacetate fabric immersed in infinite dyebaths at various temperatures. The results are analysed to yield values for the activation energy and enthalpy change associated with the transfer of a dye, Disperse Red 13, from a saturated dyebath to the interior of triacetate fibres immersed in that bath.
