(Wikipedia)

RhéologieIndex. décimale : 668.5 Parfums et cosmétiques Résumé : Using the findings from previous sensory research projects on predictive models, the current paper analyses whether, and how, the functional properties of acrylates can be imitated in cosmetic emulsions using biopolymers. It could be established that at a suitable concentration, a combination of two natural substances produced using biotechnology – gellan gum and xanthan gum – can replace an acrylic acid polymers and deliver the desired sensory properties and in some cases also the stabilisation. By taking rheological measurements in oscillation mode, a correlation to the sensory attribute of body could be established via the storage modulus G' and the plateau value. The quick break attribute also proved useful in evaluating a polyacrylate imitation. The measurement data of the rheology spectrum helped to establish the biopolymer combinations that were most similar to the polyacrylate. An after-sun cream-gel formulation was used to demonstrate that even a trained panel of sensory experts could not establish any significant sensory difference between the acrylate and gellan gum formulations. Ingrédients cosmétiquesIndex. décimale : 668.5 Parfums et cosmétiques Résumé : The measure of the emotions is now a well implemented practice in fragrance domain. Thus, the study of emotional benefits obtained by cosmetics product becomes a major issue to remain competitive. The methodology is based on the emotional response induced by a warming active in a cosmetic formula. In order to measure the emotion induced by a sensorial stimulus, we observed the physiological and the cognitive component of the emotion, completed by a psychological evaluation thanks to a reference questionnaire. In view of the results, it can be concluded that the changes in heart rate generated by the warming cosmetic active compared to the placebo have a significant stimulating effect on the panelists. With regard to the self-evaluation questionnaire, it can be observed that the application of the warming active ingredient gives a feeling of pleasure and a good appreciation. All psychophysiological parameters tend towards stimulation of the cerebral cortex, the heart rate parameter is significantly stimulating and the arousal dimension increases significantly. This last point is therefore correlated with an activation of the body by the sympathetic nervous system. Note de contenu : - INTRODUCTION : Market analysis - Can we evaluate emotions ?

(Wikipedia)

ToucherIndex. décimale : 667.9 Revêtements et enduits Résumé : The research described in this study establishes whether measured physical material parameters could be used as a predictor of the human subjective response to the tactile and visual stimuli characteristics of aluminum coating surfaces. Twenty surfaces were used consisting of four uncoated aluminum substrates and four different type of coatings applied on each of the four uncoated substrates. Forty volunteers (20 female and 20 males) were asked to rate the surfaces using semantic differential scales. The results suggest that coatings obtained by matte polyurethane which contains a fine dispersion of silica microparticles have the capability to veil the effect of the manufacturing process of the aluminum substrates on both the felt slipperiness and felt roughness. The dynamic coefficient of friction was found to be a good predictor of the felt slipperiness with a negative power law exponent of 0.86 (R2 = 0.85), confirming that greater friction is associated with less felt slipperiness. The physical gloss was also found to be highly negatively correlated (R2 = 0.87) with the felt slipperiness of the tactile stimuli, suggesting that glossier surfaces could be mostly perceived as sticky. These results provide useful suggestions relating to the sensory perception and experience of materials, helpful for the industrial and product design in numerous application fields such as the automotive and electronics industries.
