Acier

The chemical structure of composites was investigated via Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy and X-ray diffraction. Epoxy coatings loaded with different mixtures of PANI and GB were applied on steel substrate and exposed to NaCl solution. The morphological properties and corrosion resistance of the coatings were investigated through environmental scanning electron microscopy, electrochemical impedance spectroscopy, and salt spray tests. Results showed that the addition of PANI, GB, and PGB composites caused an improvement in corrosion resistance. The greatest improvement in corrosion resistance was exhibited by the coatings loaded with mass ratio of 1:1 of PANI/GB. This enhancement was attributed to the corrosion resistance of PANI and penetration resistance of GB. Moreover, the uniform distribution of PGB composites in the epoxy resin is an important parameter affecting corrosion resistance of the coatings. The nanocomposite materials were characterized by X-ray diffraction and scanning electron microscopy (SEM). To understand the effect of MMT and LDH on the corrosion inhibition performance of epoxy resin coatings immersed in 3.5 wt% saline solution at 90°C, electrochemical impedance spectroscopy and an autoclave test were performed on epoxy resin; epoxy resin blended with LDH, MMT, and LDH + MMT (LM) coatings painted on Q345 steel. The metal/coating interfaces were observed by SEM and energy-dispersive spectroscopy. Results showed that addition of LDH and MMT improved the protection properties of the epoxy resin coatings. The corrosion protection of the LM nanocomposite coating was superior to that of the other coatings. This finding can be attributed to the ionic selectivity and barrier effect of MMT and LDH nanoclay platelets dispersed within the composite coatings.
Index. décimale : 667.9 Revêtements et enduits Résumé : An attempt has been made to investigate the effect of phosphating time and vanadium additive on the anticorrosion and surface properties of ambient temperature zinc phosphate coatings. Zinc phosphate coatings with different phosphating times and vanadium concentrations were applied to low carbon steel samples. A potentiostatic polarization test in 3.5 wt% NaCl solution was carried out to investigate the electrochemical properties of coated samples. Field emission scanning electron microscopy, energy-dispersive spectroscopy, and atomic force microscopy were utilized to evaluate the microstructure, chemistry and roughness of coatings. Surface properties such as wettability, surface tension, and work of adhesion were measured. Results indicate that the sample which was immersed for 30 min in the phosphating bath exhibits the lowest corrosion current density, one tenth of bare steel, due to formation of a compact coating while having a low number of microcracks. Addition of 500 ppm vanadium to the coating in a secondary bath decreases the corrosion rate of zinc phosphate coating remarkably, by almost 80%. Microstructural results reveal that vanadium-rich precipitates are formed and enhance the coating coverage on the steel substrate. Vanadium addition increases the surface roughness, surface free energy, and work of adhesion of the phosphate coating. Spectroscopie d'impédance électrochimiqueIndex. décimale : 667.9 Revêtements et enduits Résumé : A nanohybrid waterborne binder was synthesized by miniemulsion polymerization with the incorporation of ZnO nanoparticles in order to increase the corrosion protection capability. This system was compared to a neat waterborne binder and to a physical blend of the binder with an aqueous ZnO nanoparticles dispersion. The hybrid dispersion was characterized by SEM and TEM, while the corrosion behavior of these latexes was investigated by electrochemical measurements (open circuit potential and electrochemical impedance spectroscopy in 3.5 wt% NaCl solution), evaluating the effect of the incorporation of these nanoparticles into the polymeric matrix. The incorporation of ZnO nanoparticles by blending showed similar behavior to the neat coating despite flash rust reduction on the metal surface. In contrast, the hybrid binder prepared by miniemulsion polymerization has shown the best performance according to the values of pore resistance (Ri) and coating capacitance (Cc). In general, this study shows how useful can be the miniemulsion polymerization methodology to design hybrid coating formulations, obtaining homogenous distribution of ZnO nanoparticles within the film. Indeed, a heterogeneous distribution can hinder the effectiveness and the corrosion protection capabilities of promising nanoparticles.
