Here, the authors report three-year Florida and accelerated weathering results for a series of 70% poly(vinylidene fluoride) (PVDF) coatings made with a palette of relatively weatherable organic pigments. Many of these coatings show minimal visible colour change after three years in Florida, and 6000 hours accelerated weathering. Surprisingly, the more aggressive UV-B bulb exposure, unlike UV-A bulb exposure, shows a high degree of statistical correlation with the three-year colour shift in Florida. For most of these systems, UV absorber/HALS (hindered amine light stabiliser) packages do not improve the performance, but a 70% PVDF clear coat does. Spectroscopie d'impédance électrochimiqueIndex. décimale : 667.9 Revêtements et enduits Résumé : Electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS) is used to derive an expression for predicting the service life of organic coating in a C4-type environment (industrial and costal areas with moderate salinity) as defined in ISO 12944 standard for paints and varnishes—corrosion protection of steel structures by protective paint systems. Three coating systems with a record of 2, 5, and 10 years of durability were selected for the study. The selection was also based on proven composition and dry film thickness (DFT) of the coatings as per ISO 12944. Electrochemical impedance measurements of the paint-coated panels were carried out by exposing the coated mild steel panels without scribe in different corrosive environments such as immersion in NaCl solution, neutral salt spray, etc. Neutral salt spray exposure was found to be the most severe corrosive environment among all the three coating systems. In most of the cases, EIS gave early indication of coating failure when compared to visual defects such as blistering and over-film corrosion. Note de contenu : - EXPERIMENTAL :

Textiles et tissusIndex. décimale : 668.1 Agents tensioactifs : savons, détergents Résumé : Used as efficient active agents in many household care products, silicones are effective in even small quantities, and their effects can be controlled through the type and quantity selected. As examples from household and fabric care demonstrate, their application is compatible with the overall concept of sustainability. Silicones make everyday products last longer, for instance. Because they allow manufacturers to reduce consumption of material resources, their use can save energy and water. In impregnating agents, silicones represent an alternative to fluorine-based active agents. Note de contenu : - Silicones

Index. décimale : 667.9 Revêtements et enduits Résumé : Coatings are designed for and applied on a surface for both aesthetics and protection of the substrate. Many properties are measured to indicate performance, and eventual failure, of coating under these two broad categories. Monte Carlo simulations have shown success in predicting trends in macroscopic properties during exposure. The Central Limit Theorem (CLT) is applicable because damage made to a coating can come from the accumulation of a vast number of very small damage events. Application of the CLT to property equations has generated additional equations for the prediction of properties of coating with exposure, including measurable properties such as gloss, color, fracture toughness, and contact angle. These equations, when fitted to measured data, provide insight into the mechanisms of degradation processes, since the fitting parameters are physically based. They also offer a means to scale accelerated testing measurements to early field measurements of the property of interest for predicting lifetime in varied environments. Titre : Small footprints : How to enhance the sustainability of powder coated aluminium along the value chain Type de document : texte imprimé Auteurs : Jos Verlaak, Auteur ; Dave Morris, Auteur Année de publication : 2014 Article en page(s) : p. 72-77 Note générale : Bibliogr.

Environmental impact is calculated for a coated piece of aluminium based on actual process data, provided by a representative set of Dutch coaters. Based on this information, further improvement to reduce the environmental impact along the value chain is explored. Impacts related to the use and end of life phases of the coated aluminium are not explored here. Note de contenu : - Measuring a coating's sustainability
