A secondary purpose is to maintain the aesthetic aspects and value of expensive good such as cars, trucks and aeroplanes. The cost of corrosion runs to approximately 3-4 % of GDP on an annual basis and therefore has an global economic impact of around US$3.3 billion. The configuration consists of a liquid column that moves along a vertical 2D channel, open to the atmosphere and driven by a controlled pressure head. Both advancing and receding contact lines were analyzed to test the validity of classic models for dynamic wetting and to study the flow field near the interface. The operating conditions are characterized by a large acceleration, thus dominated by inertia. The shape of the moving meniscus was retrieved using Laser-Induced Fluorescence-based image processing, while the flow field near was analyzed via Time-Resolved Particle Image Velocimetry (TR-PIV). The TR-PIV measurements were enhanced in the post-processing, using a combination of Proper Orthogonal Decomposition and Radial Basis Functions to achieve super-resolution of the velocity field. Large counter-rotating vortices were observed, and their evolution was monitored in terms of the maximum intensity of the Q-field. The results show that classic contact angle models based on interface velocity cannot describe the evolution of the contact angle at a macroscopic scale. Moreover, the impact of the interface dynamics on the flow field is considerable and extends to several capillary lengths below the interface. Surfaces -- NettoyageIndex. décimale : 667.9 Revêtements et enduits Résumé : Stay-clean and easy-to-clean surface properties keep surfaces free of contamination from fingerprints and dirt.
Achieving oil and water repellency on surfaces is easily obtained with the use of fluoroalkyl-modified silanes. While fluoroalkyl-modified silanes exhibit high static and advancing water and oil contact angles, their low receding contact angles mean the oil and water will not readily slide over the treated surface. The resulting effect of these characteristics yields a surface that is both easy to clean and stays clean longer. Ultimately, modified perfluoropolyether silanes give high static and advancing water and oil contact angles as well as high receding contact angles resulting in a very low sliding angle. The influence of structure modification of the silane and the perfluoropolyether component is examined. Their impact on performance by application method is also discussed.En ligne : https://drive.google.com/file/d/1DVo4NyO6UUFVon3LF5Itb6sQ8xXOr-2t/view?usp=drive [...] Format de la ressource électronique : Permalink : https://e-campus.itech.fr/pmb/opac_css/index.php?lvl=notice_display&id=27175

Surfaces fonctionnellesIndex. décimale : 667.9 Revêtements et enduits Résumé : The anticorrosive properties of hexadecyltrimethoxysilane (HDTMS) functionalized MCM-41 silica particles (MCM-41-HDTMS) incorporated into a methyltriethoxysilane (MTES) sol-gel matrix coatings were studied. The MCM-41 particles were synthesized and functionalized with HDTMS, and added to a sol composed of MTES:methanol:NH4OH 7M to create a coating. The materials synthesized with and without MCM-41-HDTMS were deposited, by dip coating, on Cu and Fe sheets, and were physically characterized by scanning electron microscopy (SEM), atomic force microscopy (AFM), contact angle, surface energy using the Owens, Wendt, Rabel, and Kaelble (OWRK) method, and by electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS). The addition of the MCM-41-HDTMS to the MTES matrix induced an increase of the contact angle by about 10 degrees with an augment in its dispersive component, caused by a lofty deposition of long carbon chains from HDTMS over the high surface area of the MCM-41 particles, changing from hydrophobic to superhydrophobic materials with a contact angle of 155° for the Cu-MTES-HDTMS sample. EIS results show that the addition of MCM-41-HDTMS increases the charge transfer resistance providing better protection to metals. The results show that with the addition of MCM-41-HDTMS to an MTES matrix it is possible to synthesize superhydrophobic coatings capable of limiting the corrosion degradation process.
