Taille des particulesIndex. décimale : 668.5 Parfums et cosmétiques Résumé : We prepared stable Pickering emulsions of both types (water-in-oil and oil-in-water) with the use at maximum 1.5 wt% of these new multifunctional particles. The obtained results conflrmed that the emulsion type is strongly influenced by the solid particles' wettability which is controlled by the hydrophilic/hydrophobic precursor's ratio. Also, it was shown that the prepared emulsions present a long-term stability for different ranges of oils, either mineral or vegetal, with specific sensory properties due to the 'solid' interface.
On the practical aspect, the controversial precursors, such as aluminium salts and PEG derivatives, are currently replaced to further meet cosmetics consumers' expectations.
Moreover, other innovative applications will also emerge. As an example, the antimicrobial activity of aminopropyl-silicates has recently been investigated.Note de contenu : - Starting materials

Vapeur d'eauIndex. décimale : 675 Technologie du cuir et de la fourrure Résumé : One of the most important properties that can be added to leather-based products is its ability to self-clean as leather cannot be washed frequently like fabrics. A simple and direct method to achieve this is to introduce a hydrophobic coating on the top of the leather, which can minimize the adhesion of foreign particles and thereby improve stain resistance. Additionally, this also increases the economic, aesthetic and functional values of the material. Generally, a hydrophobic surface on the leather is created by coating a polymer based on fluorine or silicone, which has the tendency to repel the water droplets. In this paper, the effect of hydrophobic coating on the physical properties of the leathers was studied. It was observed that the hydrophobic coating had a positive effect on the rub fastness properties improving the rating of 3 to 4. Water vapor permeability of the FCP-A alone coated leather reduced from 8.7 to 4.4 mg/cm2/hr in comparison to crust leather, owing to the sealing of pores on the grain surface due to the film formed by these polymers. However, incorporation of bentonite clay improved the water vapor permeability of the leathers from 3.4 to 12.9% in comparison to that of the FCP-A alone coated leathers owing to the pores created in the finish film. In addition, the contact angle of the leather surface was also increased from 98° to 121° due to the introduction of roughness induced by the clay particles. Hence, the proposed work can aid in the development of easy-care and smart leathers. Stabilité au stockageIndex. décimale : 667.9 Revêtements et enduits Résumé : The storage stability of montmorillonite/acrylic resin was studied via rheological characterizations. The Na+–MMT nanoclay and a water-based acrylic resin were used for the preparation of different suspension samples. The effect of an associative polymer such as hydrophobically modified ethoxylated urethane (HEUR) in the mixture was also investigated. The result showed that the existence of an associative polymer has an influence on the stability and zero-shear viscosity of the system. In order to determine the behavior of this system under long-term storage, various rheological characterizations such as frequency sweep and rate sweep measurements were carried out. The results showed that adding the montmorillonite nanoclay and HEUR to the acrylic resin causes short- and long-term stabilities of suspensions microstructure. The required stability, a better flow, and a better structure were achieved, respectively, upon addition of an associative polymer, addition of MMT–Na+, and flow cessation.

SilanesIndex. décimale : 667.9 Revêtements et enduits Résumé : A novel bilayer coating was developed over flat steel surface using a simple solution dipping method. Zinc oxide nanostructure (ZnO-NS) on the surfaces of flat steel was grown by chemical treatment with zinc nitrate hexahydrate [Zn(NO3)·6H2O] and hexamethylenetetramine (HMTA, C6H12N4) in aqueous solution, followed by a thin-layer deposition of amine-terminated poly-dimethylsiloxane (PDMS-NH2). We noticed surface passivation, surface hydrophobicity, and anti-corrosion properties by this robust bilayer concept where both chemical and physical effects were present. The surface properties were measured by contact angle and scanning electron microscope. This nanostructured grown mild steel, i.e., cold-rolled closed annealed steel, was compared with nanostructure grown over zinc-coated steel, i.e., galvannealed and galvanized iron. Different flat-coated specimens were characterized by Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy. The formation of ZnO-NS on steel substrate was confirmed by XRD analysis. The corrosion behavior of the different specimens was also studied through DC polarization and electrochemical impedance spectroscopy. An excellent intact bilayer coating was proposed in the interest of structural and automotive applications.
