Spectroscopie d'impédance électrochimiqueIndex. décimale : 667.9 Revêtements et enduits Résumé : In this research, the corrosion resistance and adhesion property of a synthetic rubber-based primer reinforced with different ratios of micaceous iron oxide (MIO) pigments were studied. Coatings were applied on carbon steel panels and also on steel pipes of 219.1 mm outer diameter. Scanning electron microscopy (SEM) was used to investigate the dispersion of MIO particles in the rubbery matrix. The anticorrosion performance of the coatings was studied, using electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS) and salt spray tests. In addition, the adhesion of primers to carbon steel substrates was evaluated by pull-off test. In order to investigate the effect of MIO particles on the flexibility of the pigmented primers, a cupping test was conducted. The adhesion of cold-applied tape to the formulated primers was assessed by peel adhesion test using hanging mass method. The results indicated that adding 5, 10, and 15 wt% of MIO pigments into the primer improved corrosion resistance of the coatings. An increase in the MIO loading up to 10 wt%, improved the adhesion of the primer to both steel substrate and cold-applied tape. Note de contenu : - EXPERIMENTAL : Materials - Preparation of coatings

Index. décimale : 667.9 Revêtements et enduits Résumé : Currently, galvanized steel is treated with hexavalent chrome passivation. Sol–gel coating has been found to be a potential replacement for the hazardous hexavalent chrome passivation treatment. The aim of this work is to study the effect of zirconyl nitrate on corrosion behavior of sol–gel coating. Aminopropyl-trimethoxysilane and 3-glycidoxypropyltrimethoxysilane were employed as precursors to prepare the sol–gel-based silane coating. The sol–gel film was deposited on galvanized steel sheet by dip coating method. The chemical properties of sol–gel solution and coated films were analyzed by infrared spectroscopy. Morphology of the film was characterized by scanning electron microscope. The corrosion resistance of the coated samples was evaluated by electrochemical impedance spectroscopy, potentiodynamic polarization curve, and salt spray test. The results indicated that zirconia-doped coatings have better corrosion resistance in comparison with their undoped counterparts. The coating doped with 0.5% zirconyl nitrate provides better corrosion protection due to the inhibitive action of zirconia ion. Spectroscopie d'impédance électrochimiqueIndex. décimale : 667.9 Revêtements et enduits Résumé : The development of active systems to protect metal substrates against corrosion is a promising approach for many industrial applications. In this work, a self-healing coating based on TiO2 particles modified with polyaniline (PANI) was prepared for corrosion protection of Q235 steel. TiO2/PANI particles were synthesized by in situ polymerization and dispersed into a water-based epoxy coating. The structure and morphology of as-prepared TiO2/PANI particles were characterized by FTIR, XRD, and SEM. The anticorrosion performance of the coating was studied by electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS) and scanning electrochemical microscopy (SECM). EIS analysis showed improved corrosion protection properties in the presence of TiO2/PNAI particles. SECM measurements were performed to monitor the reduction of oxygen process as a function of exposure time in 3.5% NaCl solution. SECM results showed that the epoxy coating with TiO2/PANI particles had a superior corrosion protection relative to the blank coating after artificial defect exposure to the corrosive environment.

VélocimétrieIndex. décimale : 667.9 Revêtements et enduits Résumé : Most offshore wind turbines use monopile structures anchored to seabed. In the underwater zone of these structures, water attacks the surface of the steel monopiles which is protected by organic coatings. The influence of applied stresses due to the water flow on the degradation of organic coatings is the focus of this study. For this purpose, an impingement flow chamber was employed to resemble the situation of monopile structures exposed to the shallow water currents in underwater zone. Electrochemical impedance spectroscopy was utilized to measure the changes of barrier properties of coatings exposed to the impingement flow of a 3.5 wt% NaCl solution with a variety of flow rates. Computational fluid dynamics (CFD) modeling as well as the particle image velocimetry measurements were employed to calculate and validate the magnitude of applied stresses on the surface of the coated samples. Thermal activation theory, thermal elasticity laws, and the Fick’s laws were utilized to investigate and analyze the influence of stresses on coating properties. The comparison among the obtained electrochemical parameters under different flow rates shows the direct influence of stresses on the degradation of the coatings. The utilized methods, in addition to the developed analytical procedure, can potentially predict the behavior of organic coatings applied on offshore wind turbines in underwater zone. It was concluded that the applied stresses do not influence the apparent diffusion coefficient of water in coatings, but a higher flow rate increases the volume fraction of water and coating capacitance significantly.
