Revêtement auto-nettoyant:Peinture auto-nettoyanteIndex. décimale : 668.1 Agents tensioactifs : savons, détergents Résumé : The addition of photoactive titanium dioxide to a coatings formulation leads to self-cleaning coatings. The activity can be tested using e.g. the methylene blue test. The photocatalytic effect impairs classical formulations under side reactions leading to yellowing, chalking and bleaching. Recent formulations overcome the side reactions to a good extend. The development of highly photoactive coatings showing a minimum of side reactions is still in progress. Revêtement auto-nettoyant:Peinture auto-nettoyanteIndex. décimale : 667.9 Revêtements et enduits Résumé : This review summarizes the theory and materials involved in the development of functional coatings called self-cleaning coatings. Although a few companies have rolled out products claiming self-cleaning properties, this field of coatings research has to unravel few more intricacies before achieving widespread commercial success. Hydrophobic and hydrophilic types of self-cleaning coatings have been discussed. Note de contenu : - Theory of self-cleaning surfaces

To observe the self cleaning effect, the leather samples to which nano TiO2 had been applied and control samples were stained with mud , coffee and sebum. The stained samples were exposed to UV for 24 hours. It was determined that leather samples treated with nano TiO2 exhibited a photocatalytic effect and a self cleaning effect, which increased depending on the amount of nano TiO2.Note de contenu : - Materials

Sol-gel, ProcédéIndex. décimale : 667.9 Revêtements et enduits Résumé : The self-cleaning properties of the TiO2/SiO2 double-layer films prepared by sol–gel method were investigated. Thin films were prepared by spin coating onto glass and then thermally treated at different temperatures, and characterized using X-ray diffraction, atomic force microscopy, field emission scanning electron microscopy, and UV–visible spectroscopy. The cross-sectional structure of the films was observed by FESEM. The surface roughness of the films was characterized by AFM. The root mean square surface roughness of the thin films was below 2 nm, which should enhance their optical transparency. The photo-induced hydrophilicity of the films was evaluated by water contact angle measurement in air. The photocatalytic activity of the films was studied by the photocatalytic degradation of methylene blue under UV light irradiations. The TiO2/SiO2 double-layer thin films are plausibly applicable to developing self-cleaning materials in various applications such as windows, solar panels, cement, and paints.
