Peaux brutes -- TrempeIndex. décimale : 675 Technologie du cuir et de la fourrure Résumé : The soaking process is an ideal environment for bacterial growth and bacterial activity during this process causes severe damages on hides. The use of an effective bactericidal agent during soaking is very important to prevent the detrimental effect of bacteria on hides. A quaternary ammonium compound (QAC) containing 12.5% didecyl dimethyl ammonium chloride and 12.5% benzyl dimethyl ammonium chloride which is used in soaking liquors in Turkiye was examined for its effect on Bacillus
licheniformis, Bacillus pumilus, Staphylococcus intermedius, Pseudomonas luteola, Enterobacter cloacae, Vibrio fluvialis and Enterococcus faecium.
Staphylococcus intermedius, Pseudomonas luteola, Enterobacter cloacae and Enterococcus faecium were isolated from soak liquor containing 0.8g/L of the test agent. Bacillus licheniformis, Bacillus pumilus and Vibrio fluvialis were isolated from salt-pack-cured hides. These bacteria were commonly found in isolates from salted hides.
Thé effect of the test agent at different concentrations on the bacteria was examined by the Kirby-Bauer disk diffusion method on Mueller Hinton Agar both at 25°C and at 37°C. In addition, the Minimal Bactericidal Concentration of the agent for the bacteria and the mixed population of these bacteria was also determined in Mueller Hinton Broth at 37°C.
All concentrations of the agent produced an inhibition zone for all of the test bacteria. Inhibition zone diameter changed according to concentration of agent and the species of bacteria. The agent was found to be more effective at 25°C than at 37°C. 2.97g/L of the agent in Mueller Hinton Broth was found to kill both the bacteria and mixed culture at exposure times of both 8 and 24 hours at 37°C. It was concluded that the agent should be used in higher concentrations in soak liquors to inactivate the bacteria that might cause major damages on hides.Note de contenu : - INTRODUCTION : The range of products employed - Resistance to antibacterials - Categories of agent - Previous study

Textiles et tissusIndex. décimale : 667.3 Teinture et impression des tissus Résumé : Functional polymer modified carbon black (CB) pigment (P‐(DMC‐co‐CHPMA)‐g‐MPTS/CB) with reactive epoxy and quaternary ammonium groups was designed and prepared via a thiol‐ene click chemistry reaction, and its dispersion ability in the aqueous phase, as well as its colouring and anti‐bacterial properties for cotton fabrics, were investigated. In considering both dispersion ability and reactive ability to cotton fabric, the mole ratio of the monomers (methacrylatoethyl trimethyl ammonium chloride [DMC] and 3‐chloro‐2‐hydroxypropyl methacrylate [CHPMA]) was discussed. Morphology and chemical properties of P‐(DMC‐co‐CHPMA)‐g‐MPTS/CB were tested by scanning electron microscopy, transmission electron microscopy, thermogravimetric analysis and X‐ray photoelectron spectroscopy, resulting in a weight content of copolymer (DMC‐co‐CHPMA) in P‐(DMC‐co‐CHPMA)‐g‐MPTS/CB of ca. 18%. P‐(DMC‐co‐CHPMA)‐g‐MPTS/CB was fixed onto cotton fabric via a nucleophilic‐substituted reaction between reactive epoxy groups on the CB surface and the hydroxyl groups of cotton fabric, which endowed good fastness to cotton fabric without either a fixing or an adhesive agent. Also, coloured cotton fabric demonstrated excellent anti‐bacterial activity towards Staphylococcus aureus and Escherichia coli O157:H7. Fibres polyesters
Polyéthylène téréphtalateIndex. décimale : 668.9 Polymères Résumé : This paper deals with the study of poly(ethylene terephthalate) (PET) fiber modification by antimicrobial substances following the crazing mechanism. The highest mean number of crazes and their maximal degree of opening in PET fibers subjected to tension in surface-active bactericidal liquids are reached when the plastic flow of PET begins and necks appear on the fibers. Further straining of the fibers results in a gradual transformation of the material into a fibrillar structure of strands that close the crazes. It is established that the amount of the bactericidal liquid captured by the crazes is 0.9 to 3.3 wt.% of the PET material and that the liquid localizes predominantly in the polymer amorphous phase. PET fibers treated by the developed liquids using the procedure developed preserve their antimicrobial properties after 10 to 50 cycles of heat-wet treatment.
