ThermométrieIndex. décimale : 667.9 Revêtements et enduits Résumé : Experimental methods to determine solar reflectance and thermal emittance have been presented. Based on ASTM E 1980, surface temperatures were calculated for a white coating at three different wet layer thickness values. The impact of layer thickness and substrate (black or white) on the solar reflectance and the surface temperature has been discussed. A simple procedure to extract the layer thickness at which a coating becomes NIR-opaque has been presented. Note de contenu : - Prediction of surface temperatures

VioletIndex. décimale : 667.2 Colorants et pigments Résumé : This paper explain the background behind Holliday Pigments' new manganese violet grade.
Manganese violet has long been used in cosmetics, where its vivid hues, stability and excellent safety in use are much appreciated ; it has all requisite FDA and European approvals. In addition, its manufacture is safe, with the minimal harmful by-products or toxic substances. However, until Holliday Pigments' innovative new grade, formulation difficulties have restricted the range of cosmetics in which it can be included.
Managanese Violet (MnV) is a synthetic, inorganic pigment, which was first introduced around 1900. It is essentially a covalent combination of ammonia, manganese and phosphate. The standard chemical description is ammonium manganese pyrophosphate.
The chromophore, which gives the pigment its bright violet colour is tri-valent manganese, which is stabilised within the compound structure by strong coordination with the phosphate and ammonia ions.Note de contenu : - Clean manufacture

Refroidissement radiatif

Sulfate de baryumIndex. décimale : 667.9 Revêtements et enduits Résumé : Radiative cooling is a passive cooling technology that offers great promises to reduce space cooling cost, combat the urban island effect and alleviate global warming. To achieve passive daytime radiative cooling, current state-of-the-art solutions often utilise complicated multilayer structures or a reflective metal layer, limiting their applications in many fields.
Attempts have been made to achieve passive daytime radiative cooling with single-layer paints, but they often require a thick coating or show partial daytime cooling.
In this work, we experimentally demonstrate remarkable full-daytime subambient cooling performance with both BaSO4 nanoparticle films and BaSO4 nanocomposite paints. BaSO, has a high electron band gap for low solar absorptance and phonon resonance at 9pm for high sky window emissivity. With an appropriate particle size and a broad particle size distribution, the BaSO4 nanoparticle film reaches an ultrahigh solar reflectance of 97.6% and a high sky window emissivity of 0.96. During field tests, the BaSO4 film stays more than 4.5°C below ambient temperature or achieves an average cooling power of 117W/m2. The BaSO4-acrylic paint is developed with a 60% volume concentration to enhance the reliability in outdoor applications, achieving a solar reflectance of 98.1% and a sky window emissivity of 0.95. Field tests indicate similar cooling performance to the BaSO4 films.
Overall, our BaSO4-acrylic paint shows a standard figure of merit of 0.77, which is among the highest of radiative cooling solutions while providing great reliability, convenient paint form, ease of use and compatibility with the commercial paint fabrication process.Note de contenu : - BaSO4 nanoparticle film and BaSO4-acrylic paint fabrication

Toiture -- Revêtements:Toiture -- PeintureIndex. décimale : 667.9 Revêtements et enduits Résumé : Hollow ultra-low-density thermoplastic microspheres can be used as filler in elastic waterproof coatings to improve a number of important properties of the coatings. The hollow microspheres help reflect solar radiation and reduce the temperature in cool roof coatings. This can improve the indoor climate of buildings without air conditioning, or save energy by reducing the need for air conditioning. The mechanism for the reflection is described in this paper and is compared with the mechanism for reflection by pigment particles like titanium dioxide (TiO2). Results from solar reflection measurements show that the coating system filled with hollow microspheres reflects solar radiation of all incoming wavelengths, which is different from how TiO2 reflects light. The number of reflecting units is still important for the total solar reflection and suggests that the average size of the microspheres should be as small as possible. Like most other fillers, hollow low-density thermoplastic microspheres can be used in combination with pigments. ThioglycérolIndex. décimale : 667.9 Revêtements et enduits Résumé : In the present paper, the authors report having developed highly reflective and durable coatings using synthesized zinc sulfide-capped thioglycerol nanoparticles. The coating material was prepared by dispersing ZnS/thioglycerol nanoparticles in an acrylic binder. The light reflectors were made applying this coating material to an aluminum substrate; their diffuse reflectance was measured and found to vary from 97% to 100% for 0.30-mm thick coating having 14% pigment-to-binder ratio. The aging effect of the reflectors with respect to temperature and illumination was also investigated to check their durability and they have been found to be optically stable up to 10,000 lux, and thermally up to 80°C.
