ZincIndex. décimale : 667.9 Revêtements et enduits Résumé : Ternary zinc–nickel–cobalt alloys were electrodeposited on steel substrates from sulfate bath by direct current. Microstructural and mechanical properties of Zn–Ni–Co ternary alloy coatings were investigated and contrasted with the characteristics of Zn–Ni and Zn–Co alloy coatings. It was found that the obtained Zn–Ni–Co alloy exhibited more preferred surface morphology and mechanical properties as compared to the other alloy coatings electroplated at the same conditions. X-ray diffraction studies showed that the deposits of Zn–Ni–Co alloy coatings consisted of Zn, ZnNi3, and ZnCo13 phases. The structure, surface morphology, and surface topography of the deposited alloys were characterized by X-ray diffraction (XRD), scanning electron microscopy (SEM) with energy dispersive X-ray microanalysis (EDS), and atomic force microscopy (AFM). In addition, hardness, elasticity modulus, and adhesion strength of coated alloys were measured with dynamic ultra-microhardness (DUH) and Scratch tester.

Index. décimale : 675 Technologie du cuir et de la fourrure Résumé : The effect of salt on the collagen of hide/skin is of great significance in leather-making. However, the interaction between neutral salts and collagen has not been clear, since the microscopic interaction is hard to be observed directly from the macro level of hide/skin collagen. In this study, the collagen solutions in the typical neutral salts (NaCl, CaCl2, and Na2SO4) systems were used to explore the interaction mechanism between neutral salts and collagen via combining experiments with molecular dynamics (MD) simulation. The results of fluorescence measurements of pyrene, dynamic light scattering, atomic force microscopy, and isoelectric point suggested that the variation of the interaction between different neutral salts and collagen was accompanied with the changes in physicochemical properties of collagen. MD simulation further revealed more detailed information on the interaction mechanism between neutral salts and collagen at the molecular level. The computational results of non-bond energy of the collagen-salt model boxes indicated that the electrostatic interactions of different salts with collagen molecules had the order of CaCl2> Na2SO4> NaCl. The analyses of the visualized conformation and the radial distribution functions showed that CaCl2 with Ca2+ as contributing ion tended to form intramolecular salt bridges with collagen, while Na2SO4 with SO42-as contributing ion more likely formed salt bridges between collagen molecules in the shape of agglomerates. In contrast, NaCl with Cl-as contributing ion was scattered around the collagen models, and its effect on collagen was much smaller. The study elaborated the interaction mechanism of typical neutral salts and collagen to be helpful for further understanding and improving the use of neutral salts in many steps involved in leather production. Atomic force microscopy (AFM) was employed to study the morphology of the nanofibers, respectively. The AFM results indicated a significant change in the morphology of the nanofibers before and after the ITO sputter coatings. The light transmittance and surface conductivity of the ITO-deposited nanofibers were also investigated. It was found that the surface resistivity of the PA6 nanofiber with the ITO deposition had a significant drop and the ITO deposition obviously affected the light transmittance of the PA6 nanofibers. Four different latexes, consisting of homogeneous and composite particles as well as mixtures of different particles, were studied. The atomic force microscope proved to be an appropriate tool to reveal the surface structure of the films under ambient conditions. One result was that the gloss of the paint film is strictly correlated to the surface roughness of the corresponding pure latex film. With the exception of one example, the study revealed that solvents needed to prepare a varnish tend to reduce the surface roughness.
