Synthesis of nano CaCO3 (nano calcite) was carried out using sonochemical carbonization. CO2 gas was used for carbonization of Ca(OH)2 XRD gram shows that the nano CaCO obtained under sonication process gives the particle size of 35 to 50 nm. Natural clay can be modified using quarternary salts. Due to incorporation of the intercalating agents the d spacing increases. Little amount of nanoclay can alter the entire properties of paints and inks. Rheological modifiers control the flow properties of liquid polymer systems such as paint, inks, emulsions which leads to thixotropic behavior.
(Wikipedia)

StatistiqueIndex. décimale : 667.3 Teinture et impression des tissus Résumé : Nanoparticles of dyes and pigments with high quality and efficiency can be successfully used in the supercritical dyeing process of the textile industries, which is introduced as a waterless and greener dyeing method. In this study, nanoparticles of the Quinoline yellow dye, known as colour index (CI) Solvent Yellow 33, were precipitated via the supercritical gas anti-solvent (GAS) process. This process was performed at various pressures (100, 130, and 150 bar), temperatures (308, 318, and 328 K), and solute concentrations (10, 30, and 50 mg/ml), designed by the Box–Behnken design (BBD) method. It was found that increasing the pressure, reducing the temperature, and reducing the initial concentration of the liquid solution provided favourable conditions for the production of nano-sized particles with narrow size distribution and uniform morphology. Accordingly, the optimum operating conditions of the GAS process which resulted in precipitation of the dye nanoparticles, with a mean particle size of 125 nm, were determined at a temperature of 318 K, pressure of 150 bar, and the initial concentration of 10 mg/ml. The characteristics of the precipitated particles were analysed with high-performance liquid chromatography (HPLC), field-emission scanning electron microscopy (FESEM), differential scanning calorimetry (DSC), X-ray diffraction (XRD), dynamic light scattering (DLS), and Fourier-transform infrared (FTIR) spectrometry analysis. Based on the DSC and XRD results, GAS processed samples have lower crystallinity and lower particle size. Also, nano-metric size and narrow size distribution of the precipitated dye particles were confirmed through the FESEM and DLS results. Photochimie

Polluants organiquesIndex. décimale : 667.3 Teinture et impression des tissus Résumé : In this work, experiments were carried out by combining the sonication technique with the photocatalytic technique (ultraviolet light source) for the degradation of methyl orange dye and real textile effluent. Studies were performed with variation in parameters such as oxidant (sodium persulfate), commercially available zinc oxide, methyl orange concentration, and sonochemically synthesised zinc oxide. Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy, scanning electron microscopy, energy-dispersive X-ray spectroscopy, and X-ray diffraction analysis of synthesised zinc oxide showed that the particle size was in the nano range. Near-complete colour removal by sonophotocatalytic treatment was observed for a concentration of 10 mg l?1 of methyl orange with 1 g l?1 of synthesised zinc oxide and 1500 mg l?1 of sodium persulfate. For 100 mg l?1 of methyl orange, the colour removal was 77% for 1 g l?1 commercially available zinc oxide and 84% for 1 g l?1 synthesised zinc oxide respectively, with 1500 mg l?1 sodium persulfate. Similar experimental conditions were applied for the sonophotocatalytic treatment of real textile effluent with different dilutions (1:100, 1:10, and 1:1) and raw effluent. For real textile effluent, sonophotocatalytic treatment was found to be highly effective both in colour and chemical oxygen demand removal. The chemical oxygen demand removal was 88, 65, 63, and 41% for 1:100, 1:10, and 1:1 dilutions and raw effluent respectively. Note de contenu : - MATERIALS AND METHODOLOGY : Materials - Methodology

ThermogravimétrieIndex. décimale : 667.9 Revêtements et enduits Résumé : Wetting of a solid surface by a liquid plays an important role in several phenomena and applications. Wetting of rough surfaces has attracted great scientific interest in recent decades. Superhydrophobic surfaces, which possess extraordinary water repelling properties due to their low surface energy and specific nanometer and micrometer scale roughness, are of particular interest due to the great variety of potential applications ranging from self-cleaning surfaces to microfluidic devices.
In recent years, the potential of superhydrophobic cellulose-based materials in the function of smart devices and functional clothing has been recognized, and in the past few years cellulose-based materials have established themselves among the most frequently used substrates for superhydrophobic coatings.
In the following review, different approaches to synthesize superhydrophobic coatings of silica and cellulose are discussed in detail. Procedures to manufacture superhydrophobic coatings on cotton textiles have also been discussed. In addition to the anti-wetting properties of the coatings, particular attention is paid to the cause for Hydrophobicity, methods to enhance hydrophobie nature of a surface and other incorporated characteristics such as self-cleaning property, Lotus Effect etc. Potential applications for the superhydrophobic materials range from water- and stain-repellent, self-cleaning and breathable clothing to cheap and disposable Zab-on-a-chip devices made from renewable sources with reduced material consumption. Greatest use of superhydrophobic coatings is to manufacture surgical tools, medical equipments and corrosion resistant surfaces.
