Soudage laserIndex. décimale : 668.9 Polymères Résumé : Laser transmission welding involves joining of transmitting and absorbing thermoplastic polymer components. Absorption is normally controlled by addition of small amounts of carbon black (CB). In thermal modelling of the process, the laser-light absorption coefficient is an important parameter that controls the rate and distribution of heat generation in the absorbing component. This paper introduces a novel experimental method to conveniently and accurately measure the absorption coefficient in the absorbing component. In this method, a laser beam scans rapidly over the surface of the CB-filled polymer. The laser power resulting in the onset of surface melting can be obtained and used to calculate the absorption coefficient based on an analytical model presented in this paper. To validate the proposed method, the experimental results were compared with those obtained by the spectrophotometer and the power-meter methods using unreinforced and glass-fiber reinforced nylon 6. The results indicate that there is a linear relationship between the absorption coefficient and carbon black level for these two polymers. The influence of glass fibers and laser scan speed on the measurement are also discussed.

The results indicated that the prepared carbon black/latex dispersion had excellent freeze–thaw stability. Cotton fabric that was cationised with 3 g/l of 3-chloro-2-hydroxypropyltrimethyl ammonium chloride at a liquor ratio of 30:1 can be optimally dyed with 4% owf carbon black/latex under the conditions of pH 7.2, 60 °C, and 1 h. The adsorption behaviour of the carbon black/latex towards cationised cotton fabric followed the Langmuir adsorption isotherm, with a lower dyeing rate and a better colour levelness than the ordinary carbon black dispersion with binder. TissésIndex. décimale : 667.3 Teinture et impression des tissus Résumé : Sea–island-type, black dope-dyed poly(ethylene terephthalate) microfibre fabrics were compared with normal sea–island-type PET microfibres in terms of their thermal properties, alkaline weight reduction, and dyeing properties. A comparison of the weight reduction behaviours of the two microfibre yarns revealed that the microfibre yarn containing carbon black exhibited a higher dissolution speed than that containing no carbon black. The incorporation of carbon black particles in the polyester fibre matrix therefore accelerates the degradation of the less crystalline sea component during alkali treatment. A cationic dye staining method was used to monitor the alkaline dissolution behaviour of the sea–island-type PET microfibres, and compared with the K/S values and the colour difference, the fk value is the most-desirable indicator for determination of the termination point of the alkaline dissolution process. The colour strength and the colour fastness of the dope-dyed sea–island-type PET microfibre fabrics are superior to those of the normal type.
