ViscositéIndex. décimale : 668.9 Polymères Résumé : Structures, working mechanism, data collecting and processing methods of the self-made multifunctional all-electronic rheometer for polymer composites were introduced in detail. The validity of this equipment was proved by deriving the apparent shear viscosity expression under axial vibration condition and comparing the results obtained from both this selfmade rheometer and Rosand Rh7D capillary rheometer at steady state. With this equipment, the effects of calcium carbonate weight fraction, particle size and vibration parameters on apparent shear viscosity of calcium carbonate filled propylene composites were investigated. The results show that: the apparent shear viscosity of the composites increases with the filled particle concentration. However, it is seldom affected by particle size within certain a range of shear rate. While the apparent shear viscosity increases with the decrease of particle size at moderate shear rate. Besides, the apparent shear viscosity declines rapidly with the increasing vibration amplitude. However it exhibits a cosinoidal or sinusoidal trend as vibration frequency increases and peaks at the resonant frequency of the composites. Silicone resin emulsion paints combine the good properties of mineral and synthetic resin-bound facade-coating systems in an ideal way.
The strength of the silicone resin within the paint microstructure stems from its three-dimensionally cross-linked, modified-quartz structure, the silicone resin network. High-resolution SEM (scanning electron microscopy) demonstrates how silicone resins form nanoscale network structures that can envelop fillers and perfectly line pores without sealing them. The silicone resin network strengthens the pores and renders them water-repellent. The high affinity of the silicone resin for polar, mineral fillers, even for calcium carbonate substrates, results from its unique molecular structure of inorganic/organic hybrid nature.Note de contenu : - PRINCIPLE AND THEORY BEHIND SREP TECHNOLOGY : Model of how the silicone resin networks function - From theory to reality : The microstructure of a silicone resin emulsion paint - Sample production, preparation and analytical methods - The SREP microstructure : Results at a glance

ViscositéIndex. décimale : 668.4 Plastiques, vinyles Résumé : Filled polymer compounds can present processing challenges, including poor dispersive mixing, high screw shaft torque and energy consumption, flow instabilities, and significant increases in melt pressures and temperatures. Previous theoretical development and experimental evaluations of polymer melts filled with particulate solids showed that the viscosity can be described with a model based on percolation theory concepts. This paper describes a batch mixer characterization method developed to measure the effects of filler concentration and operating conditions on the melt viscosity and process response. Experimental results are compared with capillary rheometer measurements using several low-density polyethylene resins, calcium carbonate and titanium dioxide. The theoretical treatment of the viscosity as a particulate percolating system with power-law behavior was used to analyze and compare rheometer and batch mixer data. The effects of resin molecular weight, filler type and size on viscosity and melt processing were examined and there was good agreement between rheometer and mixer viscosity trends, and percolation model predictions. The laboratory experiments and model estimates provide quantitative information that can be used to develop and troubleshoot extrusion compounding, single screw extrusion and low-shear forming processes. Vibrations (mécanique)Index. décimale : 668.9 Polymères Résumé : Vibration injection molding technology has achieved some good properties, such as high impact strength and high tensile strength. Although many researchers have proved that the short-time mechanical properties of the polymer could be improved by vibration-injection molding technology, the longtime mechanical properties, such as the creep behavior, have not been paid enough attention. In this paper, the creep behavior of the calcium carbonate filled polypropylene (PP/CaCO3) prepared at various vibration conditions has been observed. The influences of the vibration pressure and the frequency on the mechanical properties and creep behavior were investigated via creep test and tensile test. Firstly, the tensile fracture strain reached the maximum (11%) at 0.72 Hz. Moreover, with the increasing vibration pressure amplitude, the tensile fracture strain would decrease. The changing tendency of tensile strength is basically contrary with the change of the tensile fracture strain. Secondly, when the vibration frequency reaches the 0.72 Hz, the tensile creep is larger than that of other frequencies samples at 50 MPa; meanwhile, the tensile creep of these PP/CaCO3parts, which has been prepared at 0.48 Hz, decreases with the increasing vibration pressure amplitude. Finally, the dynamic mechanics analysis (DMA) and the wide-angle X-ray diffraction (WAXD) were adopted to analyze the reason of the creep behavior change. The different macromolecular chains mobility caused the different creep behavior.

The particle size of the coating pigments was the main variable affecting the gloss of the non-absorbing base materials. Adding binders and increasing the drying temperature has a negative effect on the gloss development of both calendered and uncalendered coating layers. On calendered layers, coating layer films showed more gloss development than for coated papers, especially with coarse particles. Uncalendered calcium carbonate-coated papers have a higher PPS roughness than calendered clay-coated papers. The effectiveness of calendering, as described by “calenderability,” showed an increase in gloss with increasing number of nips, irrespective of size, and size distribution of pigment particles.
