PoudresIndex. décimale : 667.9 Revêtements et enduits Résumé : Coagulation of latex particles is most often carried out in the diffusion limited aggregation (DLA) regime where the time for coagulation to take place is on the millisecond timescale. This process produces aggregates of low density, irregular shape, and a broad particle size distribution. When the coagulation is carried out in the reaction limited aggregation (RLA) regime, a coagulation time of about 1-120 sec, the system can be controlled by mixing to yield dense, spheroidal aggregates with a very narrow particle size distribution. The important variables in the RLA process for butyl acrylate/methyl methacrylate (BA/MMA) latexes were found to be mixing intensity, latex copolymer composition, and coagulation temperature. Dried aggregates formed in the RLA process were found to have excellent powder flow properties and low dustiness. Revêtements inorganiquesIndex. décimale : 667.9 Revêtements et enduits Résumé : This study investigates the innovative use of a deposition technique, spray coating, for the fabrication of optimal thicknesses of solid oxide cell (SOC) layers on a range of SOC-compatible materials. The work has been carried out as part of the European KEROGREEN project that aims to utilize CO2 into sustainable aircraft kerosene. To separate the oxygen at higher operating temperatures after CO2 dissociation (plasmolysis) for creating a CO stream for Fischer–Tropsch downstream synthesis, a solid oxide electrolyzer cell is used. For the electrodes, the most promising LaSr-based perovskite materials were selected based on their electrical conductivity and ability to suppress the CO to CO2 back reaction at the CO2 (plasma) splitting side. The spray-coating suspension was adjusted to improve the adhesion and quality of the adjacent SOC layers. The electrode coatings showed good adhesion to the yttria-stabilized zirconia electrolyte, with a thickness of 10–15 µm and porosity of circa 45%. Prior to the electrodes, thin and dense interlayers were spray coated to prevent reactions between the electrolyte and the electrodes. These interlayers reduced the total electrodes resistance of the SOEC. The LaSr-based CO2 electrode powder and spray-coated SOEC remained stable in the CO2/CO/O2 environment. ZincIndex. décimale : 667.9 Revêtements et enduits Résumé : Fine zinc powder was recommended for use in paints as long ago as 1840. But it is only in the past 50 years, with the development of zinc-rich paints based on synthetic and inorganic paint resins, that zinc powder has become commonly used, specifically in paints for heavy-duty corrosion protection.
The main applications for coatings containing zinc are the long-term corrosion protection of industrial and marine constructions (such as steel infrastructure, pipelines, bridges, windmills, and offshore drilling platforms) and the temporary protection of steel sheets (shop primers) during newbuilding of ships. Zinc coatings are specified in standards such as ISO 12944, Norsok M-501, SSPC-Paint 20, and the new IMO Performance Standard for Protective Coatings (PSPC).
Zinc primers are considered to be the most effective anti-corrosion paint systems in use and have proven their excellent performance over many decades. The thickness of the zinc primers can vary between 10 and 120 microns ; the higher the thickness and the higher the zinc powder content are in the paint, the longer the corrosion protection of the steel will last. This article reviews types of zinc powder and how they are made, types and composition of zinc primers, the corrosion protection mechanisms of zinc primers, suitable uses of the primers, and tips on application.Note de contenu : - Zinc powder : the main constituent of zinc primers
