Practical salt-free curing / J. B. Sladen in JOURNAL OF THE SOCIETY OF LEATHER TECHNOLOGISTS & CHEMISTS (JSLTC), Vol. 61, N° 1 (01-02/1977)
[article]

Water-treatment chemists have made use of various chemical reactions and biological processes to purify water from cations such as ammonium, magnesium and calcium, and common anions such as phosphates, nitrates and sulphate, but sodium cations and chloride anions are quite intractable, and pals through effluent treatment plants unchanged. There is therefore considerable pressure to limit the discharge of these ions anywhere inland in South Africa, so as not to raise the salinity of our main rivers. It is obvious that control of the discharge of sodium chloride itself is the very first step in limiting sodium and chloride ions. We can derive some idea of the potential salt run-off from this studv.Note de contenu : - Table 1 : South African abattoir, curer and tannery statistics 1975

Specifically, the effects of the modified bioflocculant on the removal of total nitrogen from tannery wastewater were investigated by the single-factor optimisation experiment and orthogonal optimization experiment, and the conclusions obtained were that the optimum factors were: amphoteric starch 0.2g/L, bioflocculant 3.5g/L, initiator (0.02mol/L) 2.5mL, reaction time of the second stage 28 minutes, rotation speed of mixing 270r/min, reaction temperature 35°C, and reaction system pH5.0. The total nitrogen removal rate of 79.81% could be obtained under these optimal reaction conditions. In other words, the modified bioflocculant has an improved effect on the removal of total nitrogen. Développement durableIndex. décimale : 675 Technologie du cuir et de la fourrure Résumé : Problems cannot be solved by the same thinking used to create them', stated Albert Einstein. In today's world, every company faces ecological challenges by embracing change and creating an environment of innovation. As a whole, industry needs to find ways to reduce the usage of water chemicals, and carbon emitted during the manufacturing of products. PrimeAsia's footprint programme, measuring those inputs, demonstrates our continued commitment to invest and measure our progres adopting more sustainable practices.
PrimeAsia defines sustainability in three dimensions : environmental, economic and social ; and we seek to involve all three dimensions in our sustainable PrimeAsia programme. PrimeAsia's sustainability goals are fourfold including moving towards zero waste and inefficiencies, reducing usage of finite energy sources, utilising more sustainable raw materials and engaging our employees, customers and suppliers in environmentally responsible choices. Over the next five years, PrimeAsia have set the ambitious target of reducing energy, water, and waste production per square foot of leather by a minimum of 30 %. PrimeAsia's foot printing programme provides the necessary data to educate, evaluate and motivate our company in our sustainability endeavours since what is not measured and understood cannot be easily reduced.Note de contenu : - PrimeAsia footprinting
