RotorsIndex. décimale : 668.4 Plastiques, vinyles Résumé : Among several operational parameters such as rotor speed, fill factor and ram pressure, the orientation of the mixing rotors with respect to each other plays a significant role in the mixing performance. An understanding of the flow field and mixing characteristics associated with the orientations of the rotors will help in obtaining a final product with a better quality. For that purpose three phase angle orientations: 45°, 90° and 180° are investigated here in a 75% filled chamber with two rotors counter-rotating at an even speed of 20 min–1. Two dimensional, transient, isothermal, incompressible simulations are carried out using a CFD code. While an Eulerian multiphase method was used to solve for the transport variables in the two phases: rubber and air, the volume of fluid (VOF) method was used to solve for the interface between the two phases. A non-Newtonian Carreau-Yasuda model was used to characterize rubber. Massless particles were injected in the domain to calculate statistical quantities in order to assess dispersive and distributive mixing characteristics associated with rotor orientations. The flow field is analyzed via pressure and velocity contours. Dispersive mixing was analyzed through histograms of mixing index and cumulative probability distribution functions of maximum shear stress experienced by the particles. Distributive mixing was quantified statistically using cluster distribution index and interchamber material transfer. The phase angle of 180° was found to perform the best in terms of both dispersive and distributive mixing characteristics. Note de contenu : - PHYSICAL PROBLEM DESCRIPTION : GEOMETRY AND MATERIALS

PolypropylèneIndex. décimale : 668.4 Plastiques, vinyles Résumé : A core-back polypropylene foaming injection process using chemical blowing agents (CBA) has been studied. First, injection tests were carried out with two different CBAs and the different morphologies of the obtained samples have been analyzed. Structural parameters such as cell density and average radius size were calculated. Then, a bubble growth model was developed to predict the foaming development during the process, controlled by the depressurization of the mold cavity during the short core-back opening coupled with the evolution of the temperature during core-back and subsequent cooling. A good agreement is found between theoretical predictions and experimental results. Polyéthylène téréphtalateIndex. décimale : 668.4 Plastiques, vinyles Résumé : Bottles made of polyethylene terephthalate (PET) are increasingly used in the bottling of oxygen-sensitive products with high barrier requirements. This trend is especially evident on the fruit juice shelves of supermarkets. Due to the large amount of time and effort needed for the experimental determination of a bottle’s O2 barrier properties, a numerical approach was investigated with the aim of faster bottle development. Titre : Numerical simulation and experimental validation of granite powder filled jute epoxy composite for slurry jet erosive wear Type de document : texte imprimé Auteurs : M. J. Pawar, Auteur ; Amar Patnaik, Auteur ; R. Nagar, Auteur Année de publication : 2016 Article en page(s) : p. 37-50 Note générale : Bibliogr.
(Wikipedia)

Usure (mécanique)Index. décimale : 668.4 Plastiques, vinyles Résumé : In the polymer composite the benefits of utilizing the excellent wear resisting properties in terms of light weight structural design are immediately apparent. Hence, the focus of this study is to propose new sets of unfilled and particulate filled treated jute epoxy composites. Therefore, initially five different weight percentages of alkali treated jute epoxy composites are fabricated (10, 20, 30 40 and 50 wt.%) and studied their slurry erosive wear in experimentally at different operating conditions such as by varying impact velocity and impingement angle by keeping all other factors constant. The steady state erosion results for jute epoxy composites shows better wear resistant behavior for 40 wt.% jute fiber loading. Hence, for further fabrication of series of hybrid composite 40 wt.% jute fiber is kept constant and granite powder is varied in three different (8, 16 and 24 wt.%) weight percentages. The granite filler content in the jute epoxy composite played a major contribution for slurry erosion resistance. Finally, the obtained experimental results are compared with simulated model results by using a computational fluid dynamics tool. The eroded samples are observed through scanning electron microscope to study the wear mechanism.
