We demonstrate herein for the first time successful fabrication of microgels based on branched poly(ethylenimine) (PEI) and their incorporation into water-soluble polyacrylate (WPA), with subsequent preparation of compact coatings via electrophoretic deposition (EPD) and ultraviolet (UV) radiation. The films including the microgels exhibited tensile strength and elongation at breakage values above 6.82 MPa and 72.09%, respectively. The coatings showed good thermal stability, decreased water absorption, outstanding durability, and rust resistance after immersion in 5 wt% NaCl solution for 7 days at 40°C. This work provides a new strategy that can be readily applied to a variety of conductive substrates. Revêtements organiquesIndex. décimale : 667.9 Revêtements et enduits Résumé : There is a trade-off between water resistance and mechanical properties of the waterborne polyurethane film. Aiming to solve this problem, the waterborne polyurethane-acrylate (WPUBH) was prepared by post-chain extension of dithiol instead of diamine, which could improve the storage stability and reduce the water absorption rate due to the absence of urea groups, and by terminating with hydroxyethyl acrylate, which could reduce the water absorption rate and improve the mechanical properties at the same time deriving from the crosslinking of double bonds after heating. The rate of water absorption for WPUBH-2 film decreased down to 2.87%, and the tensile strength reached 8.5 MPa. The water resistance and the mechanical properties of WPUBH obtained a good balance compared with those of the carboxylate-based waterborne polyurethane-acrylate in the previous reports. They had excellent bonding properties for wood joints, and the tensile shear strength was up to 4.53 MPa.

Traîtements de surfaceIndex. décimale : 668.4 Plastiques, vinyles Résumé : Natural fiber-reinforced composites must be hybridized with synthetic fibers to enhance their mechanical strength. They are appropriate for structural applications after hybridizing with more than 40 % of synthetic fibers. The hybrid composite becomes a partly biodegradable material due to the blend of natural fibers. The localized hybridization approach has been used to minimize the quantity of synthetic fiber used in hybridization. The region around the drilled hole of a composite has been identified as stress concentrated region. In that stress-concentrated region, a polyester strip of different widths is deployed to reinforce it to reduce the delamination occurrence. The present work deals with Jute Fiber reinforced unsaturated polyester resin with local hybridization of woven polyester made up of Perma Core T-18 polyester fiber strands. The interfacial shear and tensile strengths are evaluated for the proposed composite. The results revealed that the yield strength of the proposed composite increased from 18.32 MPa to 29.62 MPa due to local hybridization. The increment of 69.24 % in yield strength is more significant for structural applications. Note de contenu : - LITERATURE SURVEY

Sac d'aspirateurIndex. décimale : 668.4 Plastiques, vinyles Résumé : In order to achieve a high-quality composite, a proper manufacturing technique should be used. Glass Fiber Reinforced Plastic (GFRP) structures are commonly manufactured using hand layup, vacuum bag and vacuum infusion process (VIP) which are cost effective techniques. This paper compares the tensile strength, modulus, inter-laminar bonding and surface macroscopy of GFRP composites made by hand layup, vacuum bag and VIP process. For this reason, at first GFRP sample were manufactured using these three methods and then tested for tensile properties. In the next step, these samples were modeled numerically and compared. The results show that the strength of the sample made by VIP process is 20 % higher than the hand layup and 11 % higher than vacuum bag sample. Also, the modulus of the sample achieved using VIP is 21 % higher that hand layup and 15% higher than vacuum bag technique. By comparing the failure mechanism of the samples, it was observed that the inter-laminar bonding is highest in VIP and then vacuum bag and lastly hand layup due to a smaller number of voids. Lastly the numerical results showed to have a good agreement with the experimental results. Note de contenu : - Material
