Present study is to bring effect of Redispersible Polymer Powder (RDP) on mechanical and performance properties of formulated coating at varying dosages of polymer. Mechanical properties such as compressive and flexural strength and perforce properties are dry adhesion to concrete surface. This paper discusses the prospect of achieving optimum dosages of various polymers to reach elimination of external curing methods. Revêtements -- AdditifsIndex. décimale : 667.9 Revêtements et enduits Résumé : The author outlines ways in which companies can formulate cost-effective sheen and side sheen products with improved stain resistance and ease of stain removal properties.
Ease of cleaning and stain removal are qualities that are high on the agenda when developing new premium quality decorative coatings. In many markets this attribute is juged by the scrub or wear (how easy or difficult it is to remove or how much film weight is lost after so many abrasion cycles) resistance of the coating (the standards vary from region to region but are normally set as so many % film weight loss after a set number of cycles). However in many markets (e.g. North America, some parts of the Asia Pacific region) this attribute is now being judged differently. It is now important whether or not the paint film is prone to staining (with readily available, common household stains) and whether such stains are easily removed by gentle cleaning.Note de contenu : - EVALUATION

Several raw materials are available in the market, providing these two key factors to decorative coatings, although some components in a formulation interact with each other, affecting negatively its individuel effects. Among these components, there is the pH adjuster, as many of the existing products in the market have other side features that affect the performance of the resin, the dispersant, the defoamer and/or the biocide, among many others.
In this context, the development of silicone-based pH-adjusters brought several advantages as a consequence of their high adjustment capacity, allying improved performance, formulation costs reduction and sustainability. Their main characteristic is to be odourless and zero-VOC products, making it possible to develop odourless coatings or tow-VOC coatings, one of the great challenges for the Brazilian coating manufacturers. Adding to that, due to its high pH value, around 14, these products have a high adjustment power, reducing up to 75% the pH adjuster dosage level, depending of the evaluated formulation.
Besides being able to be used in several coatings systems (Styrene-Acrylic, Acrylic, Vinyl-Acrylic, VeoVA or VAE) and PVC levels, due to their silicone nature, these products also help in the film forming process, acting as a minor scale crosslinking agent, leading to improvements in the water resistance, scrub resistance and colour maintenance properties. Additionally, they present excellent results in storage stability and compatibility with several other raw materials, including but not restricted to biocides, defoamers and dispersants.Note de contenu : - Table 1.
