Ions métalliquesIndex. décimale : 675 Technologie du cuir et de la fourrure Résumé : Unhairing is an essential step in leather manufacturing. The traditional hair-burning technology brings huge sulfide pollution and large COD, BOD in the effluent. Hair-saving enzymatic unhairing is a popular method for displacing sulfide unhairing. However, some of the problems associated with enzymatic unhairing are need for greater control over process parameters and possibility of grain damage to the pelt. To overcome these challenges, an attempt has been made to utilize bivalent metal ions for safe and efficient enzymatic unhairing on bovine hides. The effect of metal ions such as Ca(II), Mg(II), Mn(II), and Zn(II) ions on the activity of AS1.398 protease for hydrolyzing collagen and casein was investigated. The findings were corroborated with the bovine hide unhairing and the resultant leathers were of appreciable quality. The outcomes of this study could add to the knowledge of enzymatic unhairing leading to cleaner leather manufacturing in a safe and efficient way. Environnement -- Etudes d'impactIndex. décimale : 675 Technologie du cuir et de la fourrure Résumé : Leather-making processes have achieved great improvements in reducing environmental pollution all over the world. In this study, we collected the data from the tanneries in five countries on the material flow to quantify and analyze the carbon footprint of leather-making process, based on the Life Cycle Assessment with two impact assessment methods that characterize the impact of climate change (IPCC 2013 GWP 100 years and GHG Protocol). To process 1000 kg of raw hides, tanneries in Chile, China, India, Italy, and Spain emitted 882, 1180, 1608, 1198, and 755 kg of carbon dioxide equivalent (CO2Eq), respectively. The carbon footprint of 1 kg of finished leather for shoe upper in five countries ranges from 3.41 to 6.30 kg CO2Eq. The average power consumption was the largest factor causing carbon emissions, followed by the consumption of acrylic resin, and chromium tanning agent. Carbon footprint analysis suggested that enzyme-assisted beamhouse and recycling of the liming float and the tanning float can effectively reduce carbon emissions during the leather-making process. This study will lay the foundation for the carbon footprint research of the downstream products of leather (shoes, apparel industry, etc.).

In this work, to improve the film characteristics, we impose ultrasonic vibration on the substrate, and therefore the wet coating, during the rod-coating preparation process of the GCFs, and study the effect of vibration power. The 5 x 5 cm2 thin films prepared on flexible polyethylene terephthalate with ultrasonic vibration imposed on the substrate of wet films demonstrate improved conductivity and reduced thickness. Ninefold enhancement in charge carrier concentration is observed when ultrasonic vibration is applied. The improved performance is ascribed to the eliminated pores in films, and rearrangement of graphene in the polymer network, brought about by nanometer-scale-amplitude ultrasonic vibrations. The electrical property of flexible films is demonstrated to be stable after multiple cycles of bending. Note de contenu : - Film preparation

Tannage Résumé : The treatment and utilisation of chromium containing tannery waste has been of increasing concern because of the environmental pressure for safe disposal. The aim of this work is a development of the intermediate acids of the syntan to hydrolyse chrome shavings, then the hydrolysed mixtures were condensed with formaldehyde and urea to obtain a composite condensation retanning agent by the one-pot method. The effects of hydrolysis temperature, hydrolysis duration and the amount of chrome shavings were investigated. The molecular weight of the hydrolysate was controlled. The prepared composite condensations were applied for retanning bovine upper leather. The results showed that the prepared composite condensates have an excellent thickening [substance increase], filling and good level-dyeing effect on bovine upper leather. Furthermore, two benefits exist in this development, one is that no extra acid need to be added in the hydrolysis step and the other is that the chromium present does not need to be separated since the final composite product contains Cr(III).
