Résumé :	The proportion of type III to type I collagen has been examined in biopsy samples from Hereford cattle with the vertical fibre hide defect or with normal hide structure. Samples were examined at 5 months and 10 months when the vertical fibre hide defect was being established and at 17 months when the condition was well defined. Comparisons between affected and normal animals suggest that major changes in the proportions of the predominant skin collagens are not responsible for the vertical fibre hide defect. Preliminary data on the extent of lysine hydroxylation of these collagens has also been obtained.
