Prototypage rapideIndex. décimale : 668.4 Plastiques, vinyles Résumé : When prototypes and small series are injection molded, long tool lives of 3D-printed mold inserts are an important factor. However, filled thermoplastics or highly viscous melts cause high wear. The Polymer-Lab at TH Köln – University of Applied Sciences, Germany, investigates whether filament-based mold inserts are applicable in practice or not. Note de contenu : - A process with potential

Simulation par ordinateurIndex. décimale : 668.4 Plastiques, vinyles Résumé : The purpose of this paper is to shed light on how and when 3D simulations are preferable over 2D simulations in order to predict the replicated height of nanocavities via plastic injection moulding. Simulations are necessary since not all the cavity is copied depending on geometrical and injection conditions. A 3D simulation is preferable over a 2D simulation in two cases: (i) when the heat transfer through the walls parallel to the simulated domain is not negligible and (ii) when the polymer final shape is relevant. This work explains when 2D simulations like the more commonly found in the literature are not enough to obtain reliable results and how to obtain such results by means of a 3D simulation. VissageIndex. décimale : 668.4 Plastiques, vinyles Résumé : In a research project being carried out by the IKV and KTP, the influence of geometric and process parameters on the quality of the screw connection in the direct assembly of thermosetting plastics has been analyzed. The research results show that, in addition to the geometric design, the production parameters offer additional optimization potential for the reliability of the screw connection. The compactness and curing degree of the parts exert the largest influence. Note de contenu : - Measuring the torque guarantees a reliable screw joint
- Geometry influences flank coverage and quality of the screw connection
- Injection molding parameters further optimize the quality of the screw joint
- Fig. 1 : In order to better understand the influences exerted on direct screwing processes in thermoset molding compounds, the screw connection is designed and optimized in an iterative process
- Fig. 2 : Sketch of the screw-in tube with the varied geometry parameters. A modular mold structure allows an analysis of the different tube geometries
- Fig. 3 : Influence of the geometry parameters : a high differential torque provides for adequate space before failure of the screw connection and thus ensures a higher quality of the joint
- Fig. 4 : Evaluation of the significance analysis: the largest influence on the quality of the screw connection comes from the holding phase and the subsequent curing time

Température -- ContrôleIndex. décimale : 668.4 Plastiques, vinyles Résumé : Climate protection is still on the global agenda, even if its relative importance has changed recently in the public perception. Many so-called “low carbon footprint technologies” are already available and could be utilized immediately in plastics processing. But what carbon reduction measures are not only environmentally effective? Using practical examples, gwk shows how the use of efficient temperature-control technology rapidly pays off economically, too. Note de contenu : - Potential in temperature-control with centrifugal pumps
- A comparison of investment and energy costs
- The bigger the pump, the bigger the potential savings
- Fig. 1 : Differences in power consumption and quantity ratio
- Fig. 2 : Comparison of the characteristics of the pump types (pressure/delivery). The greater pump performance, the greater the energy advantge in favor of the centrifugal pump
- Fig. 3: Comparison of heating strategies : direct heat transfer wins out thanks to high heating rates in a small space, sustained high efficiency, a low weight and amodest isulation requirement, as well as the possibility of small heating performance gradations and easy mechanical cleaning
- Table 1 : Comparison of the investment and energy costs of temperature-control equipment with small pumps in the performance range up to max. 40 l/min flow rate
- Table 2 : Comparison of the investment and energy costs of temperature-control equipment with medium-sized circulation pumps in the performance range up to max. 120 l/min flow rate
- Table 3 : Comparison of the investment and energy costs for the low-cost unit. In the illustrated example, the payback time of 2.5 years is reduced to only 0.2 years with support from public funds.
