Titre : The characteristics of oxidized lactose-metal complexes and their interaction with collagen Type de document : texte imprimé Auteurs : Chen Hui, Auteur ; Li Kai, Auteur ; Li Shu Qing, Auteur ; Shan Zhi-Hua, Auteur Année de publication : 2007 Article en page(s) : p. 193-195 Note générale : Bibliogr.

The complexes were characterized by various spectral and analytical techniques and, based on these data, appropriate structures were estimated for the complexes. Finally, these complexes were reacted with raw collagen under specified conditions and the hydrothermal stability of collagen determined by DSC. It was obvious that these complexes (defined as Rigid Matrices in leather manufacture) do improve the hydrothermal stability of collagen.
In order to improve the hydrothermal stability of collagen, two materials, each with weak tanning power were used in leather-making. Research proved that a synergistic effect occurred during the leather making process. In this paper, by applying UV, FT-IR, 13CNMR spectra and elemental analysis to the single salicylic acid and salicylic-metal compounds, the structural formulae of the compounds were determined and the hide powder was then treated with the three kinds of compounds. Finally, the treated hide powder was tested by DSC, it is presumed that Tanning Matrix formed among the collagen fibrils increases the hydrothermal stability of raw collagen. The result indicated that salicylic acidchrome with a larger stability constant was better than the others in improving the heat resistance of raw collagen. The denaturation temperature of hide powder treated with salicylic-chrome was 146.7°C. The second most effective was salicylic-aluminum,when the temperature was 145.7°C. TannageIndex. décimale : 675.2 Préparation du cuir naturel. Tannage Résumé : The influence of solvents on combination tanned leather was established with observation of thermal stability, and the microstructure of the leather sample before and after shrinkage. Thermal stability of leather tanned with MI (mimosa), GA (glutaraldehyde, OZ (oxazolidine) and Al (aluminium sulphate) were reported using the shrinkage temperature for helix and random coil transition after soaking in O.5, 1.0 and 2.0 mo/L urea solution had a very obvious effect on GA-MI and MI-OZ-tanned leather, whose Ts reduced to 84,2°C and 84,6°C from 94,8°C and 100,9°C respectively. The influence of acidity and basicity of the solution also cannot be ignored, and OZ-MI leather was the most susceptible one whose Ts reduced to 85,3°C from 97,7°C the thermal stability of leather involving MI and Al can be affected remarkably by glycerin. All of the leather samples showed a more obvious Ts decrease when it was soaked from the dry state than in moist state.
Scanning electron microscope (SEM) studies revealed that the microstructure of collagen is destroyed when it shrinks and that the degree of destruction depends on the cross-linking agents.Note de contenu : - EXPERIMENTAL PROCEDURE : Materials - Preparation of leather samples - Solvent treatment - Micro-morphology of sample

Tannage Résumé : Using mimosa as a vegetable tanning agent and oxazolidine as an aldehydic tanning agent, the approaches of hydrothermal analysis, hydrogen bond and hydrophobic bond breaking as well as chemical modifications of collagen were employed to investigate the effects of hydrogen bonds, hydrophobic bonds and side amino groups of collagen on vegetable tanning, aldehyde tanning and vegetable-aldehyde combination tanning The results indicated that the aldehyde should still predominantly react with the side amino group of collagen even when added after vegetable tanning. However, the aldehyde could further react with the vegetable tannin and thus form a cross-linkage between collagen and the vegetable tannin if high-activity nucleophilic sites are present in the tannin molecules. As a result, the synergistic effect of the combination tanning on increasing the hydrothermal stability of collagen fibres was achieved and the combined stability of vegetable tannin and collagen was strengthened remarkably. This mechanism is appropriate for describing combination tanning with condensed tannins which contain nucleophilic sites. However, with hydrolysable tannins, no aldehydic cross-linkage between collagen and tannin could be observed.
In general, this research revealed that vegetable-aldehyde combination tanning has features which are different from those previously assumed. According to the mechanism suggested in this paper, all the phenomena relating to vegetable tannin -aldehyde-collagen interactions can be well understood.Note de contenu : - EXPERIMENTAL METHODS :

Wet-white (tannage)Index. décimale : 675.2 Préparation du cuir naturel. Tannage Résumé : To avoid the release of chrome from leather into post tanning effluents and the generation of chrome shavings, an inverse chrome tanning technology based on wet white was investigated. Conventional bated pelt was firstly tanned using an amphoteric organic tanning agent (Tingjiang white tanning agent, TWT) without pickling. Then, the TWT tanned wet white was directly processed with conventional post tanning processes. Chrome tanning was transposed to the end of the post tanning. The wet white had a shrinkage temperature (Ts) around 85°C that met the needs of shaving operation, and did not generate chrome shavings. The Ts and Cr2O3 content of the leather, by using this inverse chrome tanning technology, were higher than those of the conventional chrome tanned leather. With this inverse technology, the chrome output was reduced by 48%, mainly because no chrome was released from leather in post tanning processes. Meanwhile, the volume of chromium-containing wastewater discharged from the inverse processes was barely 31% of that from the conventional processes, which makes it much easier to collect and recover chromium from the effluents. Additionally, the tensile strength, tear strength and general appearances of the leather produced by the inverse technology were comparable to those of the conventional chrome tanned leather.
