In this study, one ambient curing IPN-type polymer alloy developed out of epoxy and acrylic polyurethane systems as a high performing binder was formulated into paints and evaluated in comparison with the currently used conventional epoxy polyamide and polyurethane systems. A three-coat system consisting of a zinc phosphate primer, a micaceous iron oxide (MIO) undercoat, and a topcoat was formulated out of the IPN along with a similar system of epoxy primer, epoxy undercoat, and a PU topcoat. A two-coat system of the same primer with an IPN clear topcoat and a similar system with epoxy has also been studied. All the systems were studied under accelerated laboratory tests and field tests at a corrosive location. The results are reported and conclusions are drawn in this article. Revêtements:PeintureIndex. décimale : 667.9 Revêtements et enduits Résumé : The corrosion behavior of coated reinforced TMT bars used in conjunction with concrete structure have been investigated individually and also with various conditions of coated contretes. Corrosion characteristics of the coated & uncoated materials were measured then potentiostatically. The Icorr & Ecorr values were calculated using Gamry Echem Software and Tafel's extrapolation methods. The measurements were made based on the principle of Evans diagram Icor is free corrosion current & if it is more, it is corroding faster. Ecorr value if less negative is more safer & if it tends to zero it is less corroding and at zero value there is no corrosion. If Ecorr value is positive then it is considered as nobler or getting protected. Comparing the results it has been observed that polyurethane coating in reinforced TMT bars seems to be a potential coating material for resistance corrosion. Note de contenu : - Sample preparation

Spectroscopie d'impédance électrochimiqueIndex. décimale : 667.9 Revêtements et enduits Résumé : This work studied the evolution of an impedance model of 60 μm modified solvent-free epoxy anti-corrosion coating on a Q235 steel surface in 3.5% NaCl solution using electrochemical impedance spectroscopy. The electrochemical process of the system was divided into five stages. During the early stage of immersion, water absorption occurred mainly at the coating, coating resistance decreased, and coating impedance deviated from purely capacitive characteristics. The corrosion reaction started after water permeated into the metal/coating interface. During the mid-immersion stage, the electrochemical reaction at the coating/metal interface was controlled by semi-infinite diffusion of corrosion products due to the barrier effect of the coating. The types of corrosion product diffusion gradually became finite layer diffusion and barrier layer diffusion with the clogging of coating pores. Logarithm of coating capacitance and the square root of time showed a linear relationship in the early immersion stage, which was a typical characteristic of Fick’s diffusion. Afterwards, increase in the coating capacitance slowed down, and a non-Fickian diffusion process occurred, which presented the two-stage absorption characteristics. Water diffusion coefficient in coating was calculated to be 2.95 × 10−10 cm2/s, while volume fraction and total water absorption at saturation of coating were 2.3% and 185 μg, respectively, indicating good water resistance and protective properties of the coating. The water kinetic equation in the coating which can reflect the whole Fick diffusion process of water and containing time and location variables was obtained via the Fick diffusion equation and three-dimensional images of water distribution in the coating were drawn by transforming the dynamic equation into programs.

For the current study, the FeSiNiCr-containing coating formulations were thermally sprayed onto a agrey cast iron substrate by the high velocity oxy fuel (HVOF) method under controlled conditions. The microstructure and micro abrasive wear performance of both the uncoates substrates and the coated substrates were characterized by optical microscopy as well as by scanning electron microscope (SEM). Revêtements:PeintureIndex. décimale : 667.9 Revêtements et enduits Résumé : Coating with dense and fine particles containing fewer cracks and lower porosity shows more improved protective properties due to limiting pathways between the environment and base metal. The main aim of present research is to introduce an innovative method that is called rephosphating to achieve this morphology. The outstanding point of the present investigation is to highlight the significant effect of surface pretreatment by secondary grinding of phosphated surface and then rephosphating of this surface to obtain a coating with appropriate properties. The SEM observations showed that this method has an obvious influence on the formation of a very uniform zinc phosphate coating on the plain carbon steel compared with the traditional method of phosphating. Furthermore, the protecting properties of phosphated and rephosphated samples were described and compared using the neutral salt spray and the electrochemical polarization tests. The results showed that rephosphating method had a beneficial effect on improving the corrosion resistance. As well, improved paint adhesion of rephosphated sample was observed compared with that of the phosphated sample. Finally, it was concluded that when rephosphating method can be used to repair damaged phosphated areas, the coating with more compact morphology and improved properties can be achieved.
