The single-coat application consists of a fixed 20 pigment volume concentration (PVC) anticorrosive bottom coat based on epoxy with a mixture of pigments like iron oxide, barytes, and zinc phosphate, and a fixed 10 PVC hydrophobic topcoat consisting of silicone resin and titanium dioxide pigment. Both the coatings were prepared separately in triple role and ball mill, respectively. Three different coating compositions were prepared by mixing silicone and epoxy coatings in different weight ratios (70:30, 80:20, and 90:10). Required amount of hardener, crosslinker, and catalyst were added to these prepared compositions separately prior to application and were thoroughly mixed and applied on mild steel and glass specimens. The prepared stratified coatings were named as STR-1, STR-2, and STR-3. The formation of self-stratification was confirmed by optical microscopy, FE-SEM, FTIR spectroscopy, and contact angle measurement. The coating systems were evaluated for adhesion, tensile strength, corrosion resistance, pseudobarnacle adhesion properties, and accumulation of foulant studies by immersion of test coupons in seawater. It is confirmed that there exists a most favorable stratified coating composition in terms of silicone and epoxy weight ratios which showed performance enhancement in terms of the hydrophobicity and foul release properties compared to other coating compositions.

Protection cathodiqueTags : 'Matériau cathodique' Phosphatabilité 'Résistance corrosion' 'Acier doux' 'Couplage galvanique' Index. décimale : 667.9 Revêtements et enduits Résumé : Galvanic coupling technique is capable of producing coatings of desired thickness. Good quality coatings can be produced at low temperature. Galvanic coupling of mild steel (MS) with the other cathode materials such as titanium (Ti), copper (Cu), brass (BR), nickel (Ni), and stainless steel (SS) accelerates iron dissolution, enables quicker consumption of free phosphoric acid and facilitates an earlier attainment of point of incipient precipitation, resulting in a higher amount of coating formation. In the present investigation, potentiodynamic polarization and electrochemical impedance spectra on MS substrates phosphated using galvanic coupling are studied. This study reveals that MS substrates phosphated under galvanically coupled condition possess better corrosion resistance than the substrates phosphated under uncoupled condition.

Revêtements organiquesIndex. décimale : 667.9 Revêtements et enduits Résumé : The oriented growth of Zn-Al LDH film perpendicular to the surface of AA6061 substrate was confirmed by scanning microscopy image and X-ray diffraction pattern. The LDH film achieved a complete surface coverage on the AA6061 substrate and exhibited strong corrosion resistance in NaOH solution (pH of 13). Furthermore, a preparation protocol for poly(methyl methacrylate) (PMMA)-LDH composite film was demonstrated. LDH film intercalated only with PMMA but not polyurethane demonstrated greatly enhanced alkaline corrosion resistance, showing a more positive corrosion potential and reduced corrosion current by four orders of magnitude in electrochemical polarization spectroscopy. The enhancement in corrosion resistance by PMMA intercalation could be attributed to the increasing compactness in the LDH film and increasing hydrophobicity.
