Titre : Significance of dye research and development for practical dyers Type de document : texte imprimé Auteurs : James Park, Auteur ; John Shore, Auteur Année de publication : 2007 Article en page(s) : p. 209-216 Note générale : Bibliogr. Langues : Anglais (eng) Index. décimale : 667.3 Teinture et impression des tissus Résumé : The history of research and development on synthetic dyes stretches back for 150 years. Major contributions to practical dyeing have been the provision of dye ranges for both natural and synthetic fibres of a sufficiently wide colour gamut to obtain a multitude of colours. Dye standardisation, with the associated analytical, testing and evaluation methods, has ensured that products are fit for purpose. Ecotoxicology has been a major issue for several decades, adding to the cost of research but improving the health and safety aspects of dyes. Developments in physical forms of dyes have been designed to improve health, safety, hygiene, ease of handling and accuracy in dispensing. Application research, in conjunction with dye users and machinery makers, has been a long-established feature of the industry. This has resulted in improved, controlled and systematic dye application techniques, leading to shorter dyeing cycles, right-first-time (RFT) processing and a reduction in processing costs. Although dye making is now based mainly in Asia, it is hoped that R&D efforts will continue to ensure that products of the necessary quality and performance remain available. Langues : Anglais (eng) Index. décimale : 667.3 Teinture et impression des tissus Résumé : A new two-constant theory for colour matching has been developed based on the Kubelka–Munk theory. Colorant formulations and algorithms for matching tristimulus, K/S and reflectance values of a standard are presented based on the new theory. The algorithms are suitable for a single-constant theory as well as a two-constant theory. The experimental data show that the recipes predicted by the new two-constant theory are closer to the actual recipes of the standard sample than the recipes predicted by the single-constant theory, and also show smaller colour difference values for some disperse dyes. The results show that the scattering of some disperse dyes cannot be negligible, and that the recipes that match to textiles coloured by these disperse dyes should be predicted using the new two-constant theory. Titre : Simultaneous afterclearing and decolorisation by ozonation after disperse dyeing of polyester Type de document : texte imprimé Auteurs : Hüseyin Aksel Eren, Auteur Année de publication : 2007 Article en page(s) : p. 224-229 Note générale : Bibliogr. Langues : Anglais (eng) Index. décimale : 667.3 Teinture et impression des tissus Résumé : A set of trials have been conducted to examine the efficiency of ozonation on afterclearing of disperse dyed poly(ethylene terephthalate) fibres. Ozonation was performed in the cooled dyebath after the completion of the dyeing cycle. The ozone concentration used was 12.8 ± 0.3 mg/min at a gas flow rate of 400 ml/min. The results indicate that 3 min ozonation time is appropriate to achieve wash fastness results comparable to conventional reduction clearing. These results were obtained with simultaneous dyebath decolorisation ratios up to 67% and without significant colour yield (K/S value) losses of the dyed fabric. Ozonation periods exceeding 3 min caused significant colour yield (K/S value) losses, although dyebath decolorisation ratios increased up to 82% and wash fastness properties further improved. The chemical oxygen demand of the dyeing process decreased up to 62% by the ozonation afterclearing. The advantages of the ozonation afterclearing process are savings in terms of water, energy and time and reduction in environmental load. Titre : Enhanced PAA bleaching of cotton by incorporating a cationic bleach activator Type de document : texte imprimé Auteurs : Pavla Krizman Lavric, Auteur ; Franci Kovac, Auteur ; Petra Forte Tavčer, Auteur ; Peter Hauser, Auteur ; David Hinks, Auteur Année de publication : 2007 Article en page(s) : p. 230-236 Note générale : Bibliogr. Langues : Anglais (eng) Index. décimale : 667.3 Teinture et impression des tissus Résumé : Peracetic acid is a well-known alternative to hydrogen peroxide as a bleaching agent for cotton. In this study, a novel cationic bleach activator, N-[4-(triethylammoniomethyl)benzoyl]butyrolactam chloride, was used in combination with peracetic acid to investigate the enhancement of cotton bleaching efficiency. The effects of temperature, pH and concentrations of activator and peracetic acid on the bleaching performance were studied using a statistical design of experiment. Adding activator to a peracetic acid bleaching bath improved the resultant whiteness of the substrate and at optimal conditions produced less fibre damage than when peracetic acid was used alone. In addition, the bleaching performance of both peracetic acid and hydrogen peroxide in the presence of activator was compared. In the absence of activator, the peracetic acid performance was considerably superior to a conventional hydrogen peroxide bleach system in which no bleach activator is present. However, addition of activator to the hydrogen peroxide bath increased the whiteness to a level comparable to peracetic acid. Langues : Anglais (eng) Index. décimale : 667.3 Teinture et impression des tissus Résumé : Disperse dyes are very hydrophobic molecules that in their commercial form are usually milled in the presence of large amounts of dispersing agents (synthetic surfactants). Other dispersing agents are added as auxiliaries during the dyeing process. These synthetic surfactants were substituted for liposomes prepared with phosphatidylcholine, a well-known biological surfactant of natural origin which is environmentally friendly, and liposomes were studied as a dispersing agent in polyester dyeing.
The physicochemical behaviour of dye dispersion was analysed by two experimental measurements: the aggregation process of dye particles by filtration of dispersion and the determination of the turbidity ratio. The results obtained show the usefulness of liposomes as a dispersing auxiliary in a dyeing process, avoiding aggregation of dye molecules at high temperatures. Moreover, polyester dyeing shows similar final exhaustions, approximately 90%, at different kinetics, when liposomes are used.DOI : 10.1111/j.1478-4408.2007.00089.x En ligne : http://onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/10.1111/j.1478-4408.2007.00089.x/pdf Format de la ressource électronique : Permalink : https://e-campus.itech.fr/pmb/opac_css/index.php?lvl=notice_display&id=3524

Campbell, Auteur ; A. Matsukura, Auteur ; A. Senentz, Auteur ; Allen D. King, Auteur Année de publication : 2007 Article en page(s) : p. 242-247 Note générale : Bibliogr. Langues : Anglais (eng) Index. décimale : 667.3 Teinture et impression des tissus Résumé : A simple method of analysis has been devised in which the uptake of disperse dyes in triacetate fabrics can be monitored using ordinary absorption spectroscopy. The experimental technique requires that a sample of triacetate fabric be immersed in a liquid having the same index of refraction as the constituent fibres, thus rendering the fabric transparent to visible light. Under these conditions, a dyed sample of fabric may be placed in the cell compartment of an ordinary ultraviolet/visible spectrometer allowing one to measure the absorption spectrum of the dye molecules located within the constituent triacetate fibres of the fabric sample. Values measured for the absorbance of several dyes incorporated within samples of triacetate fabric are shown to satisfy the Beer–Lambert law, thus enabling one to measure the rate of dye uptake by triacetate fabric samples placed in infinite dyebaths. Langues : Anglais (eng) Index. décimale : 667.3 Teinture et impression des tissus Résumé : Surface treatment of polyester fabric was carried out using a vacuum ultraviolet (VUV) excimer lamp. The hydrophilicity of the polyester fabric was significantly improved by surface modification, as indicated by the decrease in wetting time and wicking time. This approach can be used to create added value for polyester fabric, which otherwise suffers from low hydrophilicity. Further changes on irradiation were characterised by atomic force microscopy and the crystallinity and tensile strength of the samples were also tested. Basic dyeability of the microdenier polyester fabric was seen to improve greatly on exposure to the excimer lamp, followed by grafting with acrylic acid. The effects were observed to increase with an increase in irradiation time. The best effect was obtained for irradiation time of 10 min. These enhanced properties were accompanied by an insignificant loss in crystallinity and tensile strength of treated fabrics. Langues : Anglais (eng) Index. décimale : 667.3 Teinture et impression des tissus Résumé : This study assesses the colour, colour difference and colour strength values obtained for eight disperse-dyed polyester fabric samples produced from full and hollow round and trilobal fibres after four sets of abrasion cycle. Each fabric was produced from the same yarns in warp and weft directions. The L*, C*DE*ab and K/S values of the undyed fabrics and dyed fabrics before and after increasing cycles of abrasion are presented and discussed. Fabrics produced from full and hollow fibres showed great differences regarding colour values in abrasion behaviour. Fabrics produced from hollow fibres were found to be very sensitive to increasing abrasion cycles. Langues : Anglais (eng) Index. décimale : 667.3 Teinture et impression des tissus Résumé : Three commercially available high exhaust dyes were used to prepare dyebaths of different shades and subjected to nanofiltration and ozonation. Colour removal, chemical oxygen demand reduction, permeate flux, ozone consumption and total organic carbon removal were analysed to determine the efficiency of nanofiltration and ozonation. It was found that both nanofiltration and ozonation showed a high degree of (>90%) decolorising efficiency. High total organic carbon removal (80%) could be achieved by nanofiltration while ozonation could achieve only a maximum of 55% total organic carbon removal. The treated dyebath was reused for dyeing the fabric and the fabric quality was compared for the different shades. It was found that the quality of the dyed fabric was good for all shades dyed with nanofiltration permeate. The quality of the dyed fabric was affected for dark shades dyed with the ozone decolorised dyebath. In this study, chitosan was applied separately on cotton fabric for ink-jet printing. A two-bath method was proposed and it was confirmed that a better colour yield was achieved with this method. However, the use of chitosan reduced the tensile strength of the ink-jet printed fabric slightly. Langues : Anglais (eng) Index. décimale : 667.3 Teinture et impression des tissus Résumé : The aqueous extract of ash-tree bark (Fraxinus excelsior L.) was chosen as a model to study the shade reproducibility of dyeing on wool. A meta-mordanting process using FeSO4·7H2O mordant was chosen as a system with particular potential for industrial application. The exhaust dyeing process with immediate use of the extracts as a dyebath and direct addition of FeSO4·7H2O stock solution as a meta-mordant process showed good shade reproducibility and satisfying levelness of the dyed material. An increase of Fe(ii)-mordant above a dyebath concentration of 2–3 g l-1 did not result in further colour depth. Extraction of 1–2 g of bark was found sufficient to dye 1 g wool yarn to the darkest colour possible ; use of higher amounts of bark did not yield substantially higher colour depth. The quality of bark and the extraction step were found to be of significant importance for the colour depth ; thus, in an optimised process, conditions of extract formation have to be well controlled.
