Anisotropic parts design - In the engine compartment, die cast aluminium parts are increasingly being replaced by injection moulded articles made from heat-resistant thermoplastics. One example of this is the glass fibre-reinforced PA exhaust gas return valve discussed in this article. When designing structural mechanical parts, the designer must factor in the fibre orientation, as otherwise the parts will be useless. |
