Considering the usefulness of this technique various applications have increased fewfolds as the IR technology became more and more sophisticated. The applications of this technique to the coating industry especially quality control, development, trouble shooting and characterisation are very wide. With the advancement in the technology especially with respect to high speed and low detection limits this technique can be coupled with other analytical instruments as a detector. They are launching newer and newer technologies, which are already popular and established in Western/Eastern countries. One of the trends is computerised colour matching system. This system has made available for any colours/shades that one can imagine. Suppliers have launched the system with the theme that, customer's demand is our wish. Considering the market trends and changes required to remain in competition, it is a herculean task to control huge data and keep track of the specifications to meet the customer's requirements. However, due to user friendly software with a high speed and accuracy, the computerised colour matching system has a wide application in the coatings industry. With these plus points, this technology is already popular abroad and is now beginning to make an impact in our country. They are used to achieve vivid interactions of colour and lustre with the added dynamic of variation affected by direction of illumination and observation. These pigments are central to the generation of many new and unique effects when used in printing inks, plastics, cosmetic formulations and paints for automotive and industrial applications. The unique pearl lustre effect is produced by light interference rather than absorption. However, they compliment and enhance the appearance created by conventional absorption and/or metal effect pigments. Special colour effects, chemical stability, and ease of use are their main advantages. Futhermore, they are not toxic.
